Remnants of High Tide on the Occoquan River

These logs were washed up on the shore of the Occoquan River after days of rain and high tides.  This pile of logs reminded me of an old split rail fence.  Walking along the Occoquan River in Prince William County is a great way to relax on a crisp fall day.

Great photo, Cindy.  The first thing I thought of was a split rail fence also.  We had a lot washed up by rain also, but everything was covered with red clay mud.  Not nearly as attractive as yours!

It looks like a very beautiful area to be lucky to be around.  Enjoy!

Cindy

A nice walk on a fall day is a great experience.

Good luck and success.

Cindy,

Sounds like a wonderful experience. Neat picture, too. The water must have been so high to push those huge logs up that far. Thanks for sharing your relaxing walk.

Bill-we have our share of clay here too.  Fortunately all that I found here was a lot of driftwood and small shells.

Carol-this path is part of a 400 acre nature reserve.  I take advantage of as many walks as I can when the weather permits.

Lou-figure it will be only a matter of time before mother nature closes down the park with winter weather.

Carra-there are a number of areas on the trail where even bigger logs have been pushed up on the path.

You an find some really pretty wood in those piles of river debris IF you look!  A little finishing and polishing can get some great yard or table decor!

Erby-I was tempted to drag some of this home but it is a refuge and you can't remove anything.

Ah yes, Leave No Trace!  Those refuges can be some nice areas because of that.  Gotta find a take home river debris area!

Erby-this is one of the secret refuges in our area.  It doesn't attract some of the crowds that other parks in our areas do.

I love those "secret" refuges.  got a couple of those around here.  They're there. They're public. But most people don't know about them and don't go to them.

Kinda nice to get away from the crowds there!

Erby-when I want to get away I don't want it to be where everyone else is going :-)
