I couldn't help but think of that song when I heard a report today giving the top five states drivers are most likely to hit a deer. But what REALLY surprised me was that Colorado was not even in the top ten!

The estimates shown below are based on a comparison of an insurance company's "deer accident" claims with vehicle registrations from the Federal Hiway Administration. Here's the list to see if you are in a state living "deerangerously" every time you get behind the wheel:

Ruth Vogt, Colorado LenderWest Virginians drivers have a 1 out of 39 chance of hitting a deer in the next 12 months.

Next were Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Oregon.

Then Montana with a 1 out of 104 chance.

Wyoming was 1 in 183,

And Idaho was 1 in 305.

So if you are live in West Virginia... be VERY careful... I think they are looking for YOU!

I wonder...are there that many suicidal deer in West Virgina or if many West Virginia drivers consider a vehicle an acceptable hunting device!

Ruth, Interesting post.  I always watch for deer (cows, etc), but now that I know that this winter while I am in Wyoming I need to be even more careful since it is a deerangerous state.

LOL, Gary! You could be right!

And yes, Gary II, you do need to be extra careful when in that deerangerous state! (If the report gave info on antelope, you'd probably be tempted to take a detour!!)

Hi Ruth, I like your deer picture with words =) In Texas, we have a home on the range where the deer and the antelope play...not sure how many drivers hit them though. I prefer to wake up in the campsite and watch them; not shoot them.
