It's very worthwhile to prepare an Elevator Speech or Elevator Story. When you introduce yourself, you want to give your name, your occupation, where you're from, and a quick summary of why that should matter to them. You have a short time to make an impression, to become memorable. Even when you're not limited to the brief time you're together between floors, people don't want to be bored by a lengthy description of either you or your area - there's lots of time in the future to get that information later if the relationship develops. But do make the few moments of introduction stand out. It's hard for most of us to think on our feet, so prepare what you're going to say to be cure that you make the most out of that first opportunity.
