Bougainvillea

Pink Bougainvillea

The Bougainvillea is a beautiful plant that comes in a variety of colors; these can be found in California, Florida and the islands.  This flower loves sunshine and will do especially well near the ocean.

As winter approaches I am already missing the colorful outdoor plants.  I remember when I was growing up we had several colors of the Bougainvillea surrounding the house.

If you happen to have this wonderful plants, here are some tips on the care of the Bougainvillea.

Thanks to Steve Hoffacker's post which made me think of my childhood.

Norma it is the flower that can but a smile on my face.

Lottie -  That is exactly right since this flower loves being close to the ocean.

Jennifer:  It is always so striking when I see a photo that shouts volumes.  Proves a picture is worth a thousand words.

BethAnn - Thank you.  I am sure you will enjoy your next visit.

Liz They are so beautiful. I love the fact they come in so many different colors, I still can't decide on a favorite.

Eric I am so jealous.  Yes you have to watch out for the thorns, I have had my run in with them.

I love the plant you shared, it is also one I really like , the flower it produces is also pretty.  However the name does escape me.

Nice pics. The bougainvillea is nice...but has some sharp thorns as well. Sort of like some people!

I grew up mostly in California where these plants flourish - don't see them here in Colorado much. I remember my mom complaining of the mess when all the petals fell all over the patio :) They sure are pretty tho!

Really like the flowers Jennifer, as well as all of your pictures of nature.  You probably have indoor plants too?

Jennifer - Bouganvillas are among my favorite plants and flowers.  I don't seem to have much luck with keeping them alive.  I think it may be because I'm a tad north in California, and the freeze generally gets them.  I'm going to read those care tips, and see if I can up their success rate.

Jennifer the red Bougainville are beautiful.  Would they grown here in our climate in the Northeast?

I love the colors of the bougainvillea plants.  They are great plants... I don't know if I have seen any in New Hampshire.

Jennifer, we found some white bougainvillea in hanging planters, and there were only two left at the nursery.  As my husband left the nursery with his plants another customer stopped him to ask where he found them, but he had the last ones.  Bougainvillea are very popular here in Baton Rouge, too.

Hi Jennifer - Bougainvillea grows well in the southern Nevada desert. It's one of my favorite plants for its coverage and colors.

Jennifer,

Nicely done. Thanks for the mention. We have several colors blooming right now. They are, as you say, a happy plant. :)

In California, not where I am, but in So Cal, down the hill, these are everywhere.  My parents live out in Palm Spings and it is beautiful as these vines climb over the Spainish style homes.
