Some days, I Just Wanna Scream!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Grants Pass, OR 199909023

Somedays, I just wanna scream! Some days, I just wanna scream!  Today, I learned another business owner closed their doors in Grants Pass, Oregon.  The River's Edge Restaurant and Miranda Mae Cafe were two of my favorite restaurants in Grants Pass, both of which closed their doors in the last thirty days.

It's difficult to sit by and watch how this economy has negatively impacted some of my dearest friends and colleagues.  A bad economy is simply not a respecter of persons, it affects everyone.  Unfortunately, it appears there will be more casualties along the way before we reach the road to recovery.

My heart goes out to those who have lost a business, a home, a job, and perhaps even their dignity and respect.  I hope there is comfort in knowing this too shall pass.  Until then... perhaps we'll find the meaning in the midst of loss, and a rainbow after the rain.

What a bummer.

I'm actually looking into opening a restaurant myself.

In addition to real estate.

It's been a dream of mine for many years.

Me too Ralph, but it would be a giant leap of faith to do something like that right now.

We are still not near the end of the financial crisis.  Just wait until the banks truly decided to process foreclosures.  Right now they are allowed to keep them on their books at artificially high prices.  The tsunami of foreclosures will crush Main Street and further enrich the Banksters.  I've written about this three times over the last three years for Barrons.  My next article will come out in January.  It is going to get very ugly when the truth of what the Bush and Obama have done comes out.

Alexandria - Ouch, the truth hurts.  Anyone who wants to open a restaurant should do it in a small tight-nit community, were you're likely to be better recognized and appreciated.  Unless you can afford to weather tough times.

It is a tough time for restaurants....and even grocery stores.  We are simply eating less in a time of scarcity.

These are certainly trying times for everyone.  We've been through this before as a nation but not necessarily as a generation.  We will make it through but it won't be easy.  Never is...

We are seeing it here too. Unfortunately a sign of the trying times.

It's hit so many people that I'm close to as well.   My heart goes out to them as well.  I'd like to do more for them.....and am working on it for some folks.

Alexandria & Gregg ~ Now I need a freeway scream, or maybe just free ice cream :)

Jim ~ I will be eating out less now that my favorite restaurants have closed.

Craig ~ I agree, I have never seen anything like this in my lifetime.

Larry ~ I am prepared to use my office kitchen as a soup kitchen, if necessary!

Melinda, tough times for all unless you can snag some "bail out" money!!  Sorry to hear about losing your favorite restaurants...been through that.

Actually, I'm still thinking of opening a restaurant.  My family has owned reastaurants since my Grandfather came to this country from Greece around 1920.
