How Gubmint Works

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert. Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night." So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?" So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One to do the studies and one to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?" So They created the following positions, a time keeper, and a payroll officer, Then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"
So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one Year and we are $18,000 over budget, we must cutback overall cost."

So they laid off the night watchman.

One real time example: Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY ... during the Carter Administration?

No? Didn't think so! So we've spent several hundred billion dollars for an agency ... the reason for which not one person who reads this can remember!

But we looked it up: It was very simple ... and at the time, everybody thought it to be necessary. The Department of Energy was instituted on 8-04-1977 TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

NOW IT'S 32 YEARS LATER AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. THEY HAVE 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE!

THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT ARE WE USING FOR BRAINS?" The night watchman could probably answer that question.

AND NOW WE ARE GOING TO TURN THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY OVER TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT????????

If you read this far, congratulations, You now have another valued example besides Social Security, Medicare and the above that the Government already failed at running. I just had to pass this on and I hope you do too. Don't let the deception keep you from seeing we are making a difference and we need to put these extreme liberals back on the shelf where they belong with their idealist fantasies, no common sense and ability to ignore the failures of the past.

SO dilusional that they think this time it will be different, let them reinvent the wheel on their dollar not ours!

These are politicians, how long does it take for the Government and The American People to realize these are not businessman, they mess up any business they try to do with politics and they need to get out of the businesses in America or Vote them out in 2010.

This makes me sick because this is how it works, and not a joke.

As we shake our head and laugh, this "gubmint" is like a helium balloon inflating, getting bigger and bigger, one day it's goinf to explode.

Gubmint actually works? Are you serious?

What a valid example of Gubmint Work. The one person doing the work is actually the first to go when cutbacks are needed.

Sure was glad to see the Virginia and New Jersey results yesterday!

Thanks Erby...this is a brillant example of the Worthlessness of this system. I am thrilled to see Va & NJ coming around..We are making a difference and the more we fight for the right kind of change the nastier the Extremist are getting to us. Poor things they had their hopes up of more delusional fantasies that failed but then they don't use the past as an example they want to reinvent the wheel.

Not on our Taxpayer Dollars, let them use their own money for this madness!

Ok, Linda I was trying to get more real estate in my outside blog but I will open it up for you..It is important to pass on..As you wish!

Here is but one example of what you are talking about. It would be funny if it wan not so sad. During the New Deal, an agency was created called the Rural Electrification Agency. It had the worthy goal of making sure even the most rural areas of the country had electricity. Do you tknow that agency still exists!

Mary - That's an interesting analogy, but the part about the Department of Energy is not exactly accurate. The department was formed as a consolidation of three different existing departments: The Federal Energy Administration, the Energy Research and Development Administration, and the Federal Power Commission.
