Over the course of the past few weeks, a very large dog has been roaming our neighborhood.  He looks like a greyhound and he is huge.  He is also not neutered, which is obvious because, as I mentioned, the dog is huge!

Major

I have been bitten by big dogs before, so at first, I was a little leery of this one.

Yesterday, JJ was going crazy.  He wanted to go outside and play.

Major

I called the police yesterday, just to report that this lovely animal has been running the neighborhood and eventually, and very sadly, would be hit by a car if his owners didn't start behaving more responsibly.  The officer that came by wasn't able to catch the dog but later that day, he was back on my deck, salivating on the sliding glass door (that would be the big dog and not the policeman) and JJ wanted outside .

Jj and Major

After making sure that Major would play nicely, I ran and got my camera.  Looking at my cute little fluffernutter staring into the eyes of this huge dog almost made me drop the camera!  I was able to get close enough to the dog to get his name and telephone number.  His owner was at work and apparently he has someone who is supposed to let Major out on a dog lead rather than just let him out.  He lives on a busy street near our neighborhood and I suggested to him that it would be a damn shame if this sweet dog was hit by a car because he was let out to roam the area. Hopefully he will be more careful in the future.

Jj and Major

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone played nicely, regardless of our differences?  Wouldn't it be nice if our skin colors and our size and shapes were not a factor in how we treat each other?  There are a lot of things we can learn from animals.  This lesson is huge.

Today, 11/5/09, I am thankful as always for JJ.  I am thankful that the Phillies made it to the World Series 2 years in a row!  I am thankful they didn't lose in the first 4 games and, in my opinion, gave us an exciting season.  I am thankful the sun is shining, my children are safe and well and that life is good.

Carpe Diem!

Susan, Very attractive dogs.  It looks like your dog is overwhelmed by the visitor but seems to be happy for the company.  I'm thankful for the sun shining, for being blessed with a prosperous real estate biz and for my loving, supportive family and friends.

Yes, we should all accept each other despite our differences and "play nice"!  I love these pictures - you know I have a soft spot for JJ but the other guy is gorgeous too!

Looks like JJ has a new friend!  It is usually the little dogs that bite, the big ones typically dont!

Barbara, all good things to be happy for!

Caren, thanks!  Dogs are God's best creation.

Leesa, I almost wet myself when I first saw the size of this dog, but he was very gentle.

Michael, thank you.  Life is great!

Robby, you are right in most cases but if a big dog bites, it's a bit more serious.  JJ loves everyone, dogs and people included.

Hi Colleen, when I say huge, it is really an understatement in that department!  xxoo

Hi Susan...Major looks like a Great Dane to me and they generally have very loving personalities.

Oh, how I agree with you about getting along.  Life is so much more exciting with diversity.

Did you see a recent picture of my Lindy on one of your posts?  I mentioned that she looked a lot like JJ.

One of the downsides of exiting the blogosphere is I don't often read "good" personalized writing.

The composition of your blog is excellent, between the photos and the easy flow of your story.  I liked the ending too ;)

Well done, Susan.

Susan, The pictures are priceless, and the message even better.  Yes, it would be a far better world if everyone played nice in spite of our differences!  As always, I love your Thankful Thurdays!  Have a great day Susan!

Susan, that dog is absolutely beautiful.   I'd adopt him. :)  Look at the two of them.  They are so cute together.  They would probably make great play mates.  You'll have to let JJ visit. :)

As far as 'everyone getting along regardless of our differences'..... I just can't imagine what a boring world it would be, if there were no differences.  Isn't that what makes the world go round? :)

Hi Shelton!  I haven't seen Major today, so hopefully, he is not running loose!

Kate, your Lindy does indeed look like JJ's sister!  Aren't they the sweetest little dogs?

Lenza, thanks for the honor!  xxoo

Mary, God made vanilla and chocolate for a reason!  It's nice to appreciate differences and meet in the middle.

Sylvie, some people who think that they want to only associate with "their kind" miss out on the true smorgasbord of possibilities in the human race.  If you only eat what you know and like, you never improve on what you eat, because you never try anything else.  It's the same with getting to know people.

I think Kate is right and Major is a Great Dane.  He looks just like my Glen's mother.  She was a black Great Dane too.  Beautiful dog and Glen is certainly a gentle giant.

Tammy, you guys are right, he does look like a great dane.  Or a small horse.  One or the other.  Very sweet dog though.  But when he is looking down his nose at your favorite person (JJ) in the whole world, he looks kinda scary!

You have made some very valid observations and YES we should learn form our four legged friends on how to deal with each other.  Thank you ma'am for sharing this post with us.

I love your lesson. Unfortunately, I think the world is getting worse rather than better, probably because people like Octomom and that 19-children couple in the Midwest keep overpopulating it.

Looks like they're having a good 'ol time romping in the back yard.  Oh, and I'm glad you clarified who exactly was salivating at the door... that could get the neighbors talking :)

Hi Hannah!!  Life can be wonderful... we have to decide that, but when we do, look out!

Richard, I hope so, but Major was back yesterday afternoon, in all his glory, to romp around with JJ!  I will feel terrible if something happens to him!  Thanks for the feature Sweetie!

Sharon, as sweet as he is, as soon as I see him, my heart does a little flip!  Thank you for always saying such sweet things.  xxoo

Don, thank you.  And thank you for the book recommendation.  I just loved Dogs won't bite if a growl will do.  Dogs are such wonderful additions to our family!

Terrie, thank you.  Why people make life harder than it needs to be by hating others is the question!

Russel, I don't think we can blame Octomom or anyone else for our own bigotry and hate.  My dad was one of 10, not all at the same time, but I don't see the difference.

Jesse!  I knew you would be the one to pick up on that!  xxoo

Susan - I am glad you cleared up any confusion as to who (or is that whom, and does that really apply to a dog?) was slobbering at the window. And great that they got along together. I hope the owners find more reliable help to care for the big guy, he is a good looking animal.

Susan, I like that dogs play nice, but where is the owner of Major? Dogs should not just be running around the neighborhood. I like your Thankful Thursday posts as well. Very genuine and highly interesting always....

Hi Mike, I thought you might be a bit worried fit he police were slobbering at my back door!  lol!

Carole,  They had fun but he is so big that when he's here, my heart does flip flops!

Tammy, Major was back the next afternoon, frolicking at my house and all through the neighborhood.  I haven't seen him since Friday afternoon, so I pray that his owner is taking better care of him.  It may though that he is home from work.  We'll see if I see him during the week when the regular owner is working.  Such a beautiful and sweet dog!  But really, he's huge!
