Thankful Thursdays: Locks of Love

I was feeling the need for a change after having surgery due to the Blahs, so I called and made an appointment to get my hair done.

While I was there, I thought maybe I'd try a different hairstyle and well...This week I donated my hair to a great cause, Locks of Love!

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

For more information on Locks of Love, go to: http://www.locksoflove.org

I am thrilled to know that I donated my hair to such a worthy cause...to help children feel better about themselves!

Special thanks to Katie Reeder, owner of Studio 359 hair salon.

Congratulations to you for donating your hair to such a worthy cause.

I have been involved with the American Cancer Society for 10 years for the Relay for Life events.  My daughter now works with them full time and is the Communikty Rep for 4 Relays.

Over the past 5 years my daughter has donated her hair to Locks of Love twice, both times while she was in college.  She is on her way in right now to get her long beautiful hair trimmed so she can donate again in the Spring.

Very worthy cause.

Congrats on helping this fine cause. An agent in our office cut off his hair for a similar charity recently after wearing a long ponytail for over 20 years.

Wanda, what a WONDERFUL thing to do. Some child will be so thankful to YOU for your kindness. I did this a few years ago, and it felt wonderful. I hope you feel wonderful too -- you SHOULD!

Wanda, they do really good work.  My hair has never been long enough to donate, but is that what yours looked like in the photo?  Wow!  That is amazing!

Pat, Yes! That was my hair...it was to my butt and I always said if it ever got that long...I'd cut it and donate it to Locks of Love!

This makes twice today that Locks of Love came into conversation..

Just this afternoon, when I picked up my 14 year old from school, I mentioned to her that her hair is really getting long. She told me that she was just waiting for it to grow a little longer and then she was going to donate it to Locks of Love!

Naturally, I'm proud of her to even be considering anyone other than herself at her age! You know how teens can be!

And now your post. mentions it again!

Great job spreading the love with this post Wanda!

Well, I'm glad you gave them up for such a good cause instead of just getting them cut and throwing them away.

Wanda - I know a couple of women that donate, I would, but, I don't think they accept overgrown beards, plus, in this line of work, don't want to look like I belong in ZZ-Top. A very fine thing to do.
