Brea, CA ~ Taking the plunge in good old Brea ~

It's a municipal pool as commonly known in most communities, however in our community of Brea, it's the plunge.  How many years (if any) have you ever heard of a muni pool being called a plunge? It's  throw back to yester-years.  In fact, this is the oldest continually operated municipal pool in all of Orange County.

City Hall Park (former home of our city hall, hence the name) on Brea Blvd. and Elm St.  is the home of this California classic.  It was  built in  1929 the same year of the great stock-market crash. And the original cost to swim for the afternoon? Ten-cents!

The photo at the bottom right is two of the local beauties showing off the fountain a one-time fixture at the plunge.

Today the plunge is still a place for summer fun, just take a look at these kids.

Lynda - Ah yes, I used to go to the plunge.  For 1 cents I could go to the plunge and stop off on my way home for a 5 cent big frosty mug of A & W Root Beer.

Kaye ~ I remember that scare, but for some reason we still did. Who knows for sure?

Marlene ~ You went to the plunge for 1 cent? Where was that, this one cost 10 cents. A&W, I remember that well, we had one on Imperial Hwy. up until a few years ago. I saw one the other day on Orangethorpe in Buena Park, I almost stopped...maybe next time.

Hi Marie ~ Yep, it's been around forever, the kid's love it. Just look at the crowd. On Monday some (or maybe all,not sure?) of the kid's swim for free. My grandson's church group is one of them. I took this photo on a Monday, it's packed with kids. It's so much fun to watch. And you couldn't pay me enough to be one of the many life-guards on duty.

Lynda,

The recent photo shows that the Plunge in Brea, CA is still popular with local residents.  I really enjoy learning the history of old buildings.  It is great to see an older facility still being used and enjoyed.

Rita ~ Thanks for stopping by. Sorry to say, but so many older things are just torn down here in So. Cal. usually to make way for new shopping. Yet out good old plunge is a different thing, it's become a landmark in town.

Katrina ~ So good hearing from you again, and yes it was full wasn't it? That's usual for Mondays. They offer free swimming on Mondays, and as you can see it's always full of little heads popping up and down. It's a real hoot to see.
