ENOUGH!!

I've had enough of it. Major Malik Nadal Hasan (according to ABC) opened fire on unarmed soldiers today. If anyone tries to say this was some lone nutjob I'm going to get really mad.

When are we going to do what we need to do? We went more than eight years without a terrorist attack on US soil and now this. The reason? Oh its so simple. We are slowly surrendering and they see an opportunity.

We are the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! DO NOT MESS WITH US! When did we lose THAT message? And what hope that we can get it back with the lilly livered occupants of the White house and Congress right now?

I am sick. I have shed tears today.

I am REALLY angry - and frankly NONE of us should take it anymore.

I am from Texas...one of my friends owns a brokerage in Killeen and this is truly a sad day...prayers go out to those who lost their lives and were injured in today's senseless attack.

I was never so disgusted with obama as today when he stood at the podium and thanked everyone for making his conference so wonderful then. O' by the way, what a tragedy today at Fort Hood. What an ass.

Simon-it is another sad day in America. I won't point fingers or yell conspiracy, instead I will say a prayer for those who have lost a loved one in this terrible tragedy and hope that those who are wounded will recover soon. It is a tragedy and accusations won't bring anyone back.

Very sad day indeed. Disgusted to hear about it.

It is a very sad day for not only those injured or killed, but also anyone who knew them and that community as a whole. Horrible actions like this affect a lot more people than those that were there.

This was terrorism plain and simple by a muslim terrorist who gained access to our Gis.

A terrible day, Simon. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families and the community.

Simon - I am in a state of shock after hearing this on the news today. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the dead and injured. This is a very sad day for America when our soldiers are not safe on their bases on U.S soil.

Simon - I have been saying for months now that we were going to be attacked on US soil because of the rhetoric that has been coming out of the White House, saying we are an "aggressor" nation and going about the whole world apologizing for "invading Muslim nations. He even went so far as to say we are no longer a Christian nation.

Obama has appeased the Islamic world and as a result he has made us vulnerable.

For example, Spain appeased the terrorists and they still bombed Spain as a result of weakness.

Jihadists attack weakness and destroy all appeasers. They are out for blood.

Obama by speaking evil of our troops, even as far as calling them criminals and agreeing with some in his party calling George Bush a war criminal which ultimately makes the United States military criminals as well.

This man it has been conformed by Kay Bailey Hutchinson who spoke with Fort Hood commanders that this man agreed with the rhetoric and called American military criminals and was to be deployed to Afghanistan and was upset and thereby killed those he "knew", he sought them out and savagely killed them when they were suppose to be safe at Fort Hood.

The terrorist who killed our soldiers today on US soil targeted people of whom he had confrontations.

He repeatedly said that we as a nation are criminals for invading Islamic nations and should be destroyed, he also called for Islam to rise up and destroy the infidels.

This is a muslim United States Major in our military by the way?

Is that not treacherous? Why was he not investigated for these words?

Politically correct? ACLU backed up words tying the hands of justice in America!

How many more have to be killed in America before we rise up and defeat radical Islam here in this nation as well as abroad?

So, now, let me get this right, if I may: the man was borned and raised in the US, enlisted and served in our military long before 9/11, was a doctor, just got promoted to Maj. was scheduled to deploy and lost it (or whatever, which none of us know at themoment).

The fact that we can accuse an American Soldier of being a terrorist instead of simply a murderer or whatever applies here because they happen to be of Arab descent is astounding, and coming from you, sad.

I recommend you do a quick search on recent shootings at our military bases and see what those soldiers' last names were...

This is certainly a tragedy on many levels. First and foremost to the families who had a loved one murdered today, a total tragedy. To the wounded and to the familes of the wounded. A tragedy that this person went on a rampage, killing innocent people. I know none of the facts, only some conjecture that was on the news earlier.

Not at all standing up for this person, but he is an American. This makes this even more tragic.

Inna - I could care less what religion he is or what his name is. He is a terrorist. He terrorized our unarmed soldiers today. He posted SIX MONTHS AGO that he was going to do it. He said suicide bombers should be classed in the same category as the likes of Navy SEAL Michael Monsoor.

I really hope you know who he is without having to look him up. You see Michael was the SEAL who provided cover from a rooftop while other Marines pulled my friend Spanky Gibson to safety after another terrorist piece of scum shot out his knee cap - later leading to him having his leg amputated. Not content with that, this SEAL hero - just six months later - threw himself on a grenade to save three of his SEAL colleagues. The Medal of Honor was presented to his grieving parents, during a White House reception.

BUT this piece of garbage today thinks a suicide bomber should be regarded in the same light as Michael Monsoor. He is a terrorist. I don't even care what his motivation is or was. He is a terrorist and we should kill him - once we satisfy ourselves that we know all of his terrorist buddies so that we can go and find them and kill them too.

Simon - i would venture a guess that there is a difference between a mass murderer and a terrorist, at the very least in so much as you and your commenters are implying rather overtly that he was probably doing someone else's bidding for political gain.

It appears that he was, indeed, acting alone.

What he had done is indifensible, but I would hesitate at this point to call it an act of a jihadist, or claim (as some of the commenters on here have) that his faith had anything to do with it. The guy DID Not infiltrate our military - he is an Amercan who enlisted after high school (I am guessing some 20 years ago). He also attempted actively to get out of his contract, hiring an attorney, offering to pay for his school - but he couldn't. I know that there are very good reasons why our military personnel shouldn't be let out of their contracts, but what good would a military psychiatrist be to our soldiers who rather blatantly disagreed with what we were fighting?

I think it's too simplistic to just look at it in terms of a Jihadist terrorist attack, as opposed to one of our own snapping.

Here are Some other incidents of soldier-on-soldier violence in recent years:

1995: Army Sgt. William Kreutzer opened fire on a formation at Ft. Bragg, N.C., killing one and injuring 18. He is serving a life sentence.

2003: Army Sgt. Hasan Akbar killed two troops and wounded 14 in a grenade attack at a military base in Kuwait. Akbar was the first American to be prosecuted for murdering a fellow soldier in wartime since the Vietnam War. He was given the death sentence.

2008: Army Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich is accused of killing two of his superiors at a base south of Baghdad.

2009 (May): Army Sgt. John M. Russell is accused of killing five fellow troops at a stress clinic on the main U.S. military base in Baghdad.

Just my opinion, Simon. I don't think any of us have enough information right now to jump to the conclusions you are jumping in your post, and certainly nowhere near enough to voice some sentiments permeating these comments.

Simon, I would like to comment on this post, but I'm having a difficult time separating my thoughts from my emotions. My heart goes out to the families, friends, and leaders of the victims of this act of Terrorism.

Although it's a sad morning, I hope everyone is ok. I'm still processing it. Our base here has a good checkpoint system, but I keep reminding myself that it was committed by one of the soldiers from within.

Bell County SWAT teams barricaded and evacuated a downtown Killeen apartment complex where Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan lived before authorities say he killed 13 people and injured 30 more during a massacre at Fort Hood Thursday.

Temple police secured Hasan's residence at Casa Del Norte apartment complex on N. Fourth St. around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Killeen police SWAT team converged on the apartment in the evening and blocked the apartment complex with the department's armored vehicle. Officers flanked the vehicle and roamed the streets, while they waited for Fort Hood investigators to arrive and process the scene.

In the morning, neighbors said Hasan handed Qurans and donated his furniture to anyone who would take it.

Neighbors described Hasan as a quiet man who began wearing "Arabic clothing" in recent weeks. Edward Windsor, a neighbor, never suspected Hasan was in the Army. Hasan's rank surprised Windsor who would never have imagined an officer with a rank of major would have lived in an apartment that rents for $350 and houses soldiers ranked as private first class.

"For his rank structure, it'd be highly unlikely for him to live here," Windsor said.

Inna- I myself an trying not to jump to a conslusion. There is a report that he was yelling "Allah achbar" or however you spell it, as he was shooting. That would be kind of wierd. If you read up on these other guys that you have listed, they sometimes did say things, but not an Islamic phrase that happens to be the same one that many terrorists shout.

You are also correct that he apparently did not infiltrate. But, many of the biggest spies in history did not infiltrate, they were either bought off or simply changed their allegiance for some reason or another. In the military, anyone with a high level clearance gets to learn all about keeping secrets, and watching out for those that would attempt to turn you.

A terrorist can act alone. Look at guys who bomb abortion clinics.

Kevin - fair enough, however I am having a hard time with one who is a Muslim US born and raised military (for at least 20 years), being labled a jihadist in this case, regardless of whether or not he yelled Praise Allah (i believe that's what it means). He was blatantly against our involvment in Iraq. He was doing what he could to not be sent there. Someone should have listened.

I can't imagine listening to the stories these young kids came to him with for years, and staying largely unscathed. Again, we've not enough information to know what happened, but I think his name and faith make it way too easy to jump on the jihadist bandwagon. By doing this we might be ignoring an underlying issue.

Suicides and incidents of violence have been skyrocketing in recent years. I doubt by charging full force after muslims we are helping anyone here, least of all our soldiers.

Inna- My neighbor here in little Twin Falls is an Air Force reserve psychiatrist. He has told us that it is very hard hearing the stories from the soldiers. He says that it makes him wish that he could go and fight rather than sit in an office and listen. Obviously different people are effected in their own way.

As for him living here for years, once again look at Tim McVeigh. Same thing. He decided to take matters into his own hands. He made a statement that scared the hell out of people, and messed up govt in that area for a while. He grabbed media attention in order to gain focus on his "war". He used violence on unarmed people in order to further his agenda.

Abortion clinic bombers do the same thing. They, like Tim, live here and were probably born here. They gain media attention, scare everyone into chaos and non-action ( as far as having an abortion) and they use violence agsint unarmed people to achieve their means.

The Unibomber used the same tactics, as do environemental warriors as they call themselves. All have been labeled terrorists.

This morning I read two blogs by people asking that we do not call this guy a terrorist yet. Fair enough. I asked both of them to let me know under what conditions they would call him a terrorist. Hopefully they answer.

My other question is this: We are being asked by some on the left to cut the guy some slack. Do not immediately jump on him because he is muslim. Do our friends on the left afford the same tolerance to the Christians that bomb abortion clinics?

Mike Medved played the news report from abc/nbc today. They mentioned everything about the terrorist killer, except for the fact that he was muslim. It was astonishing. Every other network in TX was reporting that he was in fact muslim, passing out the Koran and yelling muslim epithets during his killing spree.

If a black man had done this, you think the media would forget to mention he was black?

I don't think so. They left out the fact he was muslim. Is this fair to blacks? Every time something crime related happens they make sure to point out if it was a white, Hispanic or black person.

Somehow they thought the fact that he was muslim did not pertain to the story.

If this person had won a major award, I'm sure they would have mentioned he was muslim.

I was about to comment that the MSM reported he was Muslim. When I turned on the TV Thursday night a press conference with the Governor of Texas was on and the report said he was a Muslim. I might have had a local station on. I was also going to comment that even the liberal NY Times reported he was a Muslim.

I was wrong. I just went back and read yesterday's NY Times and am shocked that it actually says:

Military records indicated that Major Hasan was single, had been born in Virginia, had never served abroad and listed “no religious preference” on his personnel records.

Then further down in the article it says:

The Muslim Public Affairs Council, speaking for many American Muslims, condemned the shootings as a “heinous incident” and said, “We share the sentiment of our president.”

Why would they quote The Muslim Publc Afairs council if he had no religious preference?

The first report I read of this was along the lines of what Mitchell just posted (#125) - it left the impression that Hasan was Muslim but the Muslim community was united in condemning the attack and offering condolences to the community and families of the victims.

My first thoughts were: Sorrow/sadness for the families of the victims; hope that the reports of Islamic solidarity in condemning the violence was true; and concern for the Islamic community - that this pertetrator had made their claims of adhering to a religion of peace clouded even more by his actions.

It seemed plausible, to me, that he very well might have been someone who "just cracked" under the strain of being a psychiatrist for returning soldiers.

But as more and more reports are coming out, it appears he didn't "just crack" under the strain of his job as psychiatrist, but quite likely followed through on the general teachings of his religious beliefs.

I have never supported "hate crimes" bills. And I don't think his reasoning for doing what he did should really matter all that much. It's not about thoughts, it's about his actions.

His actions were not accidental. He wasn't trying to do something else and "accidentally" shot 40+ people.

Neither were his actions, according to reports, perpetrated in the heat of an argument or other sudden emotional situation.

The trial and punishment should go forward quickly - charging him with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder. I'm not sure if labeling him "terrorist" is helpful, as it seems to me to be more of a label for accusing him based on his thoughts and not so much on his actions.

Let me get this straight. Hasan gave away all his belongings. Passed out copies of the koran just prior to his killing spree, made more than a couple statements on line that he was going to kill American solders, made comments several times to those he worked with along the lines of, muslims were "right" in killing Americans, and yelled "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great) before he began killing fellow solders.

What is sad also is that this man who we will know more about, since he is alive and he just had his ventilator removed, what he really is in the days to come. The man was not forced to serve in the military. He was not drafted. No one put a gun to his head to make him join. He even joined against his parents' wishes. That is the contract you sign. When you join the military there is no promise that there will never be a war for you to go to or not. Don't join the military if you don't want to be deployed. I know what it is like, my father served in Vietnam for many years. IF I were to agree with all those on here that seemed to be outraged that we are calling him a Muslim terroist (AND I AM NOT!!!) there is one other avenue that can be looked at.

Sadly, we all try to make sense out of a mind that doesn't make any sense. It can not be done. We want to get a rational answer to the burning question of what causes this lunacy. We'll never understand the workings of a radical muslim extremist. Even more unfortunately, our own constitution stands for his rights too. We must protect against knee jerk reactions that may come about as a result and rob us of all our religious freedoms. This is without a doubt the most cowardly attack one human could undertake. My heart, full of prayers, is going to the families of those brave people whose lives were taken and I also pray for the perpetrator, a very sick person.
