Are You Part Of The Sandwich Generation?

Some interesting demographics and trends being noticed by Phoenix home builders. Recent research predicts that one in three baby boomers expect to have an aging part move in with them within the next 5 to 10 years.  When that happens and there are still children at home being raised, then you've become part of the "sandwich generation".  In the 1930's, the average life expectancy was 67 years old. Now people are living 15, 20 or 25 years into retirement.  Many families cannot afford assisted living or nursing homes arrangements and want choose the alternative of having their parents live with them.

Recently, I helped a family relocate from Connecticut.  The husband and wife sold their home and so did her mother. Jointly, they purchased a Gilbert home that was over 3,000 sq.ft. and has 2 master bedrooms.  This multigenerational arrangement is becoming more common.  Builders are also responding to this demand by offering homes with in law suites, guest quarters or casitas.

I love your title question!  I was almost hoping that this was going to be a posting about how our generation has become accustomed to "living on" sandwiches and fast food.  But I'm very glad that this had more meat to it, so-to-speak.

Thanks for posting.  See you at the office.

Sounds nice.  What is the cheapest price that you have seen a condo sell for in your area that is livable?
