Recently, I've had a really great reminder of how to conduct business.  K.I.S.S. - stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid.  It's a really great acronym and one that I have to be constantly reminded of.  I have so many things going on in my mind-things to do, people to see, calls to make... In fact, a lot of times I look at all the things to do that I get nothing done!  What a frustrating process especially at the end of the day when you look back and see that you still have ALL these things to do!

I know, I know... it all comes back to time management.  Block off certain times of the day to return phone calls, make calls, write blogs etc, etc...  I wish someone could tell me how to handle the kid distractions and everything else that comes up throughout the day.

Football Plays and How it Relates to Real Estate

My middle son loves to play sports and even though I'm his second pick (dad is #1), I sometimes get summoned to play baseball or football.  So we'll be throwing the football around and Corbin will want to do "a play."  Now, I watch football but I don't know any plays.  Here's my version of a play.  "O.K., Corbin.  This is what we'll do - go left, then go right."  OR the next play goes like this, "Corbin, go right, then left.  Hutt, hutt."  Brilliant, isn't it!  Just want you guys to know that I'm not a bad quarterback and we usually connect.  Even had a comment from someone walking through the park watching us, it went something like this, "Great play, mom."  Anyway, one of those many hats that I wear that can be kind of fun.

Back to real estate.  My real life football play was very simple.  For me, I need to simplify my life and schedule.  For my clients, my systems are simple and well-explained.  There are so many things that could go wrong with a transaction and a lot of questions that can be asked.  K.I.S.S. gives a person enough information without overwhelming them with all the pitfalls.  Even if someone has purchased a home in the past, I briefly go over the ins and outs of the transaction and be a "consultant" by leading them through the process.  Works well that way and hopefully prevents problems in the transaction.

K.I.S.S. is so simple and yet so ofter we over complicate everything - I agree - we have to keep it as basic as we can and yet excel at our jobs so the clients know we are in charge and earning our hard earned commission.

I love the KISS acronym. It can remind you what you need to do when you are feeling overwhelmed and that is pretty regular in this business.

Good post!  I like the K.I.S.S. principle.  I also think that being consistent is important too.  It's better to work at 90% of capacity for 5 days than at 70% for 4 days and 130% for one.
