I had the Brazilian Hair Straightening system put in my hair on Monday, and thus far, WOW!  I couldn't wash my hair for four days, until today.  All week, people were saying how great my hair looked.  Well, it looks the exact same way as when I would use the Chi flat iron, so that wasn't the test.

The test was whether or not it would be straight after I washed it and while it was wet... and it was straight!
There was a tiny wave at the front around my ears, but that's always a hard place to straighten, but when I dried it, it was straight!!  And it's incredibly soft and I can run my fingers through it with no knots.  It's awesome!

And there is even some body to it so it doesn't look plain and dead.

Here are a couple of pictures from the front and the back.  My hair has absolutely nothing in it. No gel, no mouse, no hairspray, no nothing...

What is the Brazilian Hair Straightening System? It's a Keratin treatment.  Keratin is a protein found in the skin, nails, and hair. The treatment reconditions the hair preventing frizz, YEAH!!!  Even though it's been "straightened" it can still be curled or done in many hairstyles.  It doesn't have to be straight.

What was the process like?  Painless and easy.  My hair was washed with a salt-free clarifying shampoo, twice. Some people need to have it washed three times depending on how dry, porous, and damaged it is, but a minimum of two times.  It was then completely dried with a hair dryer.  Then the keratin was applied to small sections of hair at a time, always combining that section to the sections already done to ensure an even coating.  Then, my hair was dried again.

Once completely dried, a flat iron was taken to tiny sections at a time until my entire head was done.  The iron needs to be somewhere between 350-450 degrees.  Mine was done at 400 degrees.

I was told to not wash my hair for four days.  It was completed at 12:30pm on Monday afternoon and I washed it this morning, Friday, at 7am.  Close enough to four days...

The Brazilian Hair Straightening System will last anywhere from 3-6 months.  I was the hair model for my mom's hair stylist for a certification class he teaches, so I didn't have to pay for it, but we'll see if it's worth the $250-300 to have it done again. I love straight hair!!

Steve, Cute picture... I had a straightener put in about 15 years ago, and it didn't stay straight even one day.  THis is a brand new process that is becoming a big trend.

Hi Donna. I love how your hair looks. I have thick hair that can be so difficult to manage. Lately I have stopped using my hair straightener because it can be very damaging.

That treatment seems as though it is not damaging to the hair cuticle. I may look into it but you know... I love how your hair looks in your other picture too. It looks sooo healthy. ~ Lana

Donna - Glad to hear you like it!  Sounds very interesting, I want it done to my hair now!  =)  I love straight hair.  Do you have to worry about drying it and flat ironing it anymore?  Or will it dry pretty straight from the start?  That'd save me 30 minutes each day, maybe I can do more blogging or working out!

Thanks for sharing!

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Lana, Yes, it can damage. I lost much of my curl during the pregnancy because I used the chi so much.

Kathleen, I dried it because I had an early appt, however, instead of it taking 30 minutes to dry it, it took only 7 minutes because I didn't have to actually pull it straight with the roller brush or worry about part of it being damp. I'm sure I could go without drying it, but it's only been one day.

Personally, I would love to have curly hair!  My hair is so straight...it doesn't get any straighter! I have to gel, mousse, spray, curl, spray to get what little curl I can.... Guess as women we always want what we don't have.

As long as you love it, that's what most important. Hair is such an integral part of us. It's important to be crazy about it.

I've used the WEN hair shampoo and since then, my hair has never been the same. The natural wavy-ness came back, and no more dandruff. But it was expensive. I went to a cheap version of Wen at Sally's called Hair One. NOT the same. I hate to have to spend $30 per month on hair shampoo.

Hi Donna... Maybe this will solve the Suave "Anti Frizz" product shortage you reported on!  Like they say, one door closes and a new one opens!  BTW, the hair looks great!

Donna - 4 days??? just kidding. It looks good. Im sure you were nervous trying out a new product. I go with the really short look, so I don't tend to have those issues. I could not even tell you what my hair would look like if I grew it out.

Sherry, No you wouldn't. You have to actually do something to it everyday, whereas with straight hair, I can role out of bed and go!

Loreena, That's a lot for shampoo!

Steve, Exactly!!  I cut 5 inches off, made it healthy, and the frizz was still there with the "new" products I was trying, so the Brazilian straightener got rid of it.

John, I've seen it featured on some entertainment news shows, so I knew what to expect and very quickly agreed to do it with no worries.

That's awesome! I'll have to see if the girl I go to has heard of it and if they do them at her salon.

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Kathleen, They have to have a special certification to do the process.

Does the packaging say anything about it containing formaldehyde?  I was interested in this a while back until I read on the internet that it contains formaldehyde; then I forgot all about it.  You can't believe everything you read on the internet but I am wondering if that is true.

Shirley, Online, I read that there is a little formaldehyde, but I never smelled anything, so it's a very small amount. Even the people watching kept asking why there was no harsh "smell". All I smelled was a coconut smell, and I hate coconut, so the first couple of days was not the greatest for me.

It's been a week and a half and I'm still lovin' it... there are times when it starts to wave, and I was reading more about it... "virgin" hair doesn't stay straight as long as previously altered hair.  So, hair that has been colored or highlighted or straightened before will take the straightener for a longer period. To counter the wave, I just use my hair dryer for about 10 seconds, and it's straight again.

I have that frizzy waive thing going on and hate humidity!  I use a Chi flat iron too!  This is an interesting process.  I have a hair appointment on Wednesday and will ask my gal if she is certified!
