The autumn of my years! It often seems that I do not have my priorities in order. I work many long hours and sneak in a few hours of “relaxation” in here and there, but even during those supposedly rest times, work is swirling around in my head.

The world is a big and beautiful place, and I have seen very little of it, as I prefer to remain in close proximity to home. It always seems that the simple everydsay tasks preoccupy my time!

And there are a lot of things that I have “put off until next year” for over twenty years now, and I really need to reevaluate my thinking. I am in the autumn of my years and the leaves are beginning to drop!

So I have decided to take some action and modify the game plan. From now on, I’m going to live life to the fullest!

Starting next year, of course!

Richard....you're not alone in those thoughts!!!!  If what we do makes us happy, content and fulfilled, then we need to continue in that direction.

Thank You for your well written and poignant commentary.

Is the root of the issue "procrastination" or is it that "our eyes are bigger than are stomachs" (as my grandmother used to say) and we tend to plan to "do" much more than we really can?

Richard, I agree. I've also noticed one of the laws of nature about time. The older you get the faster the days, months, and years go by. I can't believe its November- again!

Barbara...

There is much wisdom in what you just said. You should write a blog about that. THX.

Richard, I too put off till tomorrow, what I said I would do today!  My goal is to always work smarter, not harder to free up more time for the more special things in life...problem is, my work is very special to me too!

It's almost January 1 and January 1 is when I implement new policies and procedures for Homefinders.com.

I'm not a procrastinator so I'm now in the thinking stage.  Next comes the outline stage.  Come January 1, the execution.

Mmmmm.  Funny choice of words.

Richard I did the same thing last year, but the year went by so fast I didn't get to do all the things I wanted to do. Next year is another year. I need to update my list.

Richard, be very careful you don't put "you" time off too long. Being "on" constantly adversely affects your health, and sometimes even with the best intentions to make time to relax, we wait too long and our bodies force the issue on their own.

Ballance is very important.  I think it is more difficult in a difficult market but must be achieved.

Hi Richard,

This time you need to make it happen. We plan trips and include them in our business plan. We love to travel and put as much time and energy planning our trips as we do our business. We already have the big trip planned for next year..Egypt, Jordan and Israel

Richard:

There is one thing of which I am certain - and that is that this is all going by much too quickly.

Richard,

I am thinking that you are more proactive and not the procrastinator that you are portraying yourself to be.

Those leaves are not going to fall for long with out you fullfilling your dreams.

Now get out the rake and get to work on those leaves.......

Richard - you certainly have made some pensive posts recently. One suggestion, I think if you live your life the way that makes you the happiest, you have lived it to the fullest.

Why start something today that you could put off until tomorrow?  Unless it's a good book, of course!  Enjoy the weekend!  I love Mike's comment above.  You don't have to be a world traveler to have lived a good life.  Just live the life that way you love to!

Richard:  Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow, right?  This time of year really does bring out introspective Richard.

Richard, several years ago mt father passed away from lung cancer. It took so much of a toll on my family that my husband took an early retirement, we sold our home and most of our belongings, bought an RV and hit the road. It was the best thing we've ever done. We visited 39 states, many national parks, reconnected with each other and our kids. I highly recommend it. It is life changing.

I procrastinate paper work, but not "life matters or family".  I don't so much like paper work and I wait until I'm under the pressure of an actual deadline and then whip it out, but life is too short to put of "life" until next year.

We are growing older every day... or so I was recently reminded.  I'm doing everything I can to savor ever moment we have.  If there's something you want to do, then get out there and have at it!  There's room for work and play in life!

Richard, I'm going to try and remember this post.  I'll then try and remind you sometime next year.

I'm so set in my ways that I won't even make any predictions for what I need to do for next year.

You could have been writing this post about me!! LOL. I finally realized the only one stopping me was ME. So now each year I choose one thing I have wanted to do but kept putting off and then I schedule it and do it. It worked wonders for me.
