When Active Rain first came out with the ability to re-blog, I wasn't sure that I liked the idea... I'm always just a tad cautious about new things and need a little time to think about it or get used to it.

Quickly though I realized that others were writing stuff that my clients would or could benefit from if they read it... articles about topics that those writers were much better qualified to write and may have just said it better than I had.

So I started re-blogging.

Since there are mortgage people here on Active Rain that are writing some really great blogs about all of the ins and outs of mortgages
, I sometimes re-blog a mortgage post.  It compliments the topics that I choose to write about.

Staging makes a differenceDitto for staging.  My clients could really benefit from good staging articles and we have some of the best stagers in the world right here writing about it.  So I re-blog staging articles. And home inspection articles, AND appraisal articles

Sometimes someone posts an article and I just flat-out do not want to lose that
home inspection - cracked foundationsarticle and I will come back to it easier if I re-blog it into my line-up... I realize that reason for re-blogging may be a little off base but hey, it's the truth.

Sometimes I simply truly enjoy an article.  It says things in ways that I want to promote...so I re-blog.

Every once in a while someone is trying to accomplish a worthwhile goal
that will better accomplished if more people know about it, so I re-blog their post to bring attention to their issue.

On one re-blog, I received an email from the original blogger, compliementing me on the use of her blog I had added a little bit to the title for a better fit to my area.  I knew when I saw her photo blog that it was a great one for use around Lake Raymond Gary and I appreciate her letting me re-blog and her compliment on my use of it.

Re-blogging allows me to have a much fuller blog
for my clients and customers with depth into areas where others are the expert, not me.  Hopefully it will benefit my clients, my office, and the original blogger.

So my question - Why do you re-blog?

I've only reblogged about 3 times. I don't like it. It's not "original" content for my blog.

I re-blog articles that appeal to my client base and that are interesting and well-written.  I think it adds to the richness of the blog to have a variety of topics.

Hi Judi. I have never reblogged because I want original content posted.... ~ Lana

I have done some reblogging....but not often. I see some do it all the time....all day, and they do get 25 points for each, so it's a nice way to add a few extra points a day. But every once in a while I find something very worth reblogging and sharing and I do it.

Judi, I hadn't really thought of some of the areas you brought up.  Thank you, I know there are some blogs that would benefit my followers.  I'm going to make sure they see those.

I agree with you Judi. I will reblog topics that will provide my clients with information that will be helpful to them. I just re-blogged a topic on buying property in Mexico and how to protect your earnest money. I don't know a think about Mexican Real Estate, but living in San Diego there are a lot of people here that want to buy property there. I am here to provide a service to my clients and want to make sure they are educated in their decision making. If I can assist in that education by re-blogging on a topic I am not familiar with, better for me!

Judi:  I have thought of doing it.  I will read a post, and want to share it too.  But I never see the green reblog button anywhere?

I've re-blogged a couple of times -- primarily on subjects for reinforcement of a topic.

Christine,

If it's a "member only" post, those do not get the re-blog button or if someone hasn't checked the button to allow for reblogs, it can't be re-blogged.

I agree if the person has great information I think there is no harm in reblogging

Hi Judi, some of the people commenting said they wanted to keep original content on their site and while that is certainaly a valid choice I want my blog to be a place where people can come for good information whether it is mine or someone else's.

I Re-Blog.  I love it.

Show me a magazine where all the articles are written by one writer? It is a compliment to have your content good enough to  syndicated by others.  The reasons I Re-Blog are similar to yours.  Mostly I Re-Blog content for consumers.

I RT on Twitter too.  It's a compliment. It's collaboration.

A funny thing about this post.  I originally posted it as a "members only" post which does NOT allow reblogging AND the post is about that very thing.. so I put it in draft mode and changed it to public post which allows it to be re-blogged.

If there are any concerns about it being a public post, please let me know.

I reblog once in a while.  In fact, I reblogged today, to help out a fellow Rainer, who is trying to reach a milestone.

I've reblogged Feng Shui posts ... because I can't write those, but I know my clients will find them interesting.

I've reblogged other great blogs, that have useful information, whether for us, or for clients.

What I have a hard time with, is going to someone's page, to read more about them and read their blogs, and I'll scroll through 20 or 30, and they are all RE-blogs.  There isn't a single original post.  Reblogging for points alone is not something I agree with.

Judi - I have some mixed feelings about re-blogging.  I'm not going to diss the people who occasionally re-blog in order to pass on good info that they are not knowledgeable in.  In the 14 months that I've been blogging here, I've done that a few times.

Like so many others though, I also want to try and build my blog on original content so I try and do that as much as possible so visitors to my blog get a good feel about me and how I work.  One of the main purposes of blogging is for people to get to know us through our posts, our own experiences, our own opinions and our own writing.

So when I go to visit someone else's blog and it is just page after page after page after page of re-blogs, the only sense I get of that person is a) they can't write, b) they have no opinions or experiences of their own, and c) their just blogging for points.  The people who are creating blogs like this are missing the whole point of blogging.

I never re-blog.  I think it weakens your own blog myself.  But I'm not against it.  Like you said, if you find something useful to your clients...why not?  But at the same time, you would probably impress them more if you just wrote a similar post yourself.  Just my two cents.

Great points expressed in the comments.  I do feel that reblogging is important to help my readers be informed on something that I just learned.

Judi,

I re-blog when I find a post that I think could benefit my clients.  I'm a Broker and I usually re-blog really great posts written by people in the Mortgage business and home staging.  They know their field better than I do, and many of their posts would be of interest to my clients.

I too have re-blogged when I've come across a post that would interest the readers in my area.  I hate it when I see a good post and then quickly afterwards, another appears in the same vein but slightly changed - it should have been re-blogged rather than 'borrowed'.     I also like to re-blog when someone is attempting to reach out to as many people as possible.  That is when we can post to different groups than their original 5.

When I see my own post re-blogged, I take it as a great compliment.  To think someone else thought what I wrote was worthy of passing on -  too cool!

Hi Judi-  I think that the "re-blog" is a wonderful thing and a real compliment to the original writer. I have not re-blogged, but wold especially consider content that is outside of may area of expertise (mortgage, title, inspections, etc).  --Sara

Hey Judi -   Late comment here.   I looked up re-blogging to see why some people do it.  I do every once in a while to remind me of a post that was interesting, or some knowledge that I believe in.  I try to make sure to tell the orginal blogger that I'm going to re-blog their post.

But also, I was wondering why I was coming across the same person posting alot of re-blogs.  I read alot of blogs for information and found one agent had posted 80 re-blogs by the 15 of this month already.   They must be looking for points.

Thanks for posting this, and for all the comments here.
