El Portal is a small community just South of Miami Shores, between 85th and 91st Streets and between NE and NW 5th Avenues.

The city is a bird sanctuary and it is known for its beautiful trees and birds. You may also be one of the fortunate ones that will see a peacock walking around. There is even a piece of Tequesta Indian history in The Sherwood Forest area where you will find a historically designated Ancient Burial Ground.

Three cities merged in 1937 (El Jardin, Sherwood Forest and El Portal) and were incorporated into what is known today as The City of El Portal.

El Portal real estate varies from historic Spanish Revival Architecture to modern homes. Although there is no commercial district in El Portal, it is centrally located and close enough to neighboring shopping.

Lisa - I also like to see cities getting involved and caring about their surroundings.  This place is really great because of the mature trees and all the wild life.  I'm sure we'll get to meet soon, that was a lot of fun.

George, it's funny that you say that.  I noticed today they had replaced the sign on the first picture - now I have to reshoot it and reload it.  Geeez!

My husband and I lived on a bird sanctuary in Santa Cruz early in our marriage ("before kids") and absolutely loved it. El Portal sounds gorgeous - I bet it's lovely!

Leah - man you were busy today!  It really is a great place, and compared to other cities around it, still affordable.

Mary - The pictures don't do it justice...it really is beautiful and the Sherwood Forest subdivision has such great trees (that's where the indian burial ground is) - you get such an eerie and peaceful feeling while walking around.

it's amazing,i can't believe i lived there for 10 years,now i living in las vegas but EL PORTAL marked me forever,i miss those green areas,keep it in good shape i will come back some day :D

there is a canal crossing in my backyard and i can find any species of birds,iguanas,racoons,parrots it's a great place to live if you move to El Portal you will know Frank ex mayor/carpinter of that little community great outgoing person:D

Jose - thank you so much for commenting.  I totally agree with you about El Portal - not only is the place and it's vegetation beautiful, but the people are great as well.  I'm assuming you lived on the River in The Sherwood Forest Subdivision - I am so glad you talked about the wild life....it's like living in your own little piece of paradise.  I do hope you come back, the changes are really positive, you will not be disappointed!

Oh i will come back someday i live thinking that day,i usually use google earth just to see where my heart is,El Portal is a place where you can walk,exercise into a forest living with animals and growing old healthy

What a great video ,after this beatiful tree that divide the road there is a little hill further ahead  a Huge and old Ceiba tree i lived front of it

Oh Jose - I'm afraid that Ceiba tree suffered major damage by the last hurricane that hit us.  I almost cried when I saw it.  But the oaks next to it are still intact.
