My friend T*** desperately needs a vacation. So why doesn’t she take one?

She’s a professional woman, knows her stuff, has a high-up position in our industry, and she’s absolutely great at what she does. But I’m afraid that somewhere along the road, she lost a part of who she really is.

Have you ever felt this way… just suddenly, totally fried? I know T*** has enormous talents in other  areas, and she doesn’t have to ditch her job and become a bohemian artist, but unless we keep stirring our creativity, and keep alive a well balanced life, we’ll wake up one day and discover that somewhere along the way, we died to the life we were meant to live.

That’s why I take 9 + camping trips a year.  They’re just 42 hours each, but each hour is a slice of heaven, and refuels me for the work ahead. In fact, I’m writing this in Pacific Beach, on the beach at Campland by the Bay. I love to write so this is pure joy for me.

What are you doing to clear your head and re-energize your soul?

Here’s a call to action---Act now—before it’s too late!  Start planning for 2010 by writing in your vacations and holidays FIRST on your master calendar. Then commit to NOT working on those days. Then keep your promise to yourself.

During the boom days you couldn't take a vacation because of missing out on the income, now you cannot take a vacation because you cannot miss the opportunity of maybe making a sale. Life tends to pass-by Realtors as we are on call forever. This year I am actually taking off for 6 weeks, plans are made and I am out of here after no vacations for the past 7 years.

Barb - I really like your post and I try to get out of Vegas every chance I get, but I am helping finish The City Center Project on Las Vegas Blvd.

Believe me come Spring I will be taking some big vacations and thanks for the reminder. If you have a chance search Robert Swetz's groups at Activerain, it would be a pleasure to have you join some.

PS - I have a group called "California Dreaming"

Barb, If you don't slot out the time for personal rejuvenation it probably won't happen.  That's when "one more thing" keeps coming up to be taken care of.

You are so right! Vacation time must be inked in FIRST on the calendar.

I take mini-vacations, too, but I put them on my calendar second. Taking vacations won't make me money, and I can't take a vacation without making money, so work goes on my calendar first.

Jim--Oddly enough, I find I get more biz when I book a vacation-- everyone always calls me the week before!

Barb -

I love the idea of your mini camping vacations.  We're headed to CA for 6 days at Thanksgving with our daughter and that will be my first get away this year.  Really looking forward to it and already have a long weekend planned in January.
