A couple of weeks ago we staged a small lake house where the owners had done all sorts of expensive upgrades.  The home was so cluttered though, you could barely make them out.  The only way upgrades are appreciated is if they're visible!

Here are a few:

A kitchen full of granite and great cabinets - who knew?

Once we decluttered and cleaned up, the beautiful counters and cabinetry shined!

Can you find the great pedestal sink?

Decluttered -Look how pretty!  And now you can notice the hardware and the mirror.

Great Granite Wetbar - but totally lost

We moved the random shelf supports on the back wall and reaccessorized - Now this is a great selling point

What is the point of having pretty things if you cover them up with ugly stuff?  Nice job uncovering the pretty things!

Very nice job.  the clutter in the bath room only pointed out that they didn't have cabinet space for the personal stuff.

Pedestal sinks and cabinet less sinks are nice looking but not practical

Well the change in lighting surely didn't hurt the new photos either.  Amazing differences, but you made them take down the airplane? Hahahaha!

People often ask me what is the number one thing home owners should do before selling their home; and next to pricing it properly for the market I always answer de-cluttering. This post is an excellent example of how dramatically a homes appearance can be improved by getting rid of excessive belongings. Great post and congratulations on your feature.

And the lighting is amazing.  Glad that your trained "eye" can see the way to properly display accessories--it makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks for the comments ~ I think accessory placement is nearly as important as furniture placement.  You don't want too much or too little  - not too small, not too large.  When you find that balance, it all lays out much nicer.

That piece of granite in the kitchen (on the island) was HUGE - it looked almost ridiculously over sized, especially as it turned into a giant catch all for junk.  I told them to unbury their granite and keep it shining - this is a costly upgrade that was being wasted.

I also loved the pedestal sink (the pretty not practical one, yes :-) but it just looked lost in the clutter.

These were great clients who took our advice, and removed almost all of their belongings before we staged.
