Pioneer Village, a part of the White County Historical Society, held an open house today.  I attended.  It was delightful and brought back so many memories.  Here's the main house that is NOT for sale.

And here are few shots of the rooms inside it.

An amazing thing about this house was how many bed spaces it found.  There must have been enough bedspaces (can't call them rooms) for 5 or more kids to have a sleeping spot.  Here's a picture of one of the least favorable things from yesteryear....the out-house.  But who ever heard of a log out-house?

Pioneer Village is located on Higginson Street in Searcy Arkansas.  It contains a post office, general store, school house, blacksmith shop, a depot, smokehouse, barn and an old jailhouse in addition to this period house that is called the Gordon House.  It is an on-going project with members of the Master Gardeners taking care of the grounds.

Today costumed members were greeting visitors and demonstrating crafts, arts, and everyday life from the past.  One lady had a fire going with a pot of stew cooking.  Walking through it, entering the buildings and visiting with the hosts made for a very enjoyable afternoon outing.

GREAT tour of Pioneer Village....thank you.  I couldn't make it but feel as if I did the next best thing.  Don't you just love the plastic bottle of water on the table of the woman churning?   I bet we can get Don to remove that from the picture???

I'm betting all those who participated in yesterday and today are really having fun, reliving the olden days.

Anita, I didn't notice the bottle of water.  Ha!  Do you think Don can remove my wrinkles?  I think I may make an album of the pictures I made and email them to anyone who might want to see them.  What do you think?  Shutterfly makes great easy-to-email albums.

Great idea and what a nice thing to do: mail pics. of the Pioneer Village....just don't get your feelings hurt if no one asks for them!   I would think WCHS would appreciate having a package....you are a great photographer.

I'm sure Don would and could remove your wrinkles....

Charlie, without indoor plumbing, look how much easier your inspections would be.  I wonder how you'd write up these floors, too, with cracks that you see through from the top floor or the main floor!  There was nothing but a board between you and the weather extremes.

Bob and Carolen, thanks for visiting.

Godmother,

What can I say but that it would have been so much more enjoyable for you had your Godson also been there.

Godson Nutsy,

You'd have had a squirrel holiday at this place.  There were all sorts of things for you to investigate.  Not many wires to eat in the old buildings, however!

Godmother,

Your photo is not so stern and I like that. Except you should show the other one whenever Mr Charles or Ms Kate is around.

What wrinkles?

Hello from Vicksburg, MS on the way home.

My grandmother had a churn like that. I remember the dewey butter that was served for supper.

Nutsy, I changed the photo just for you.  Mr. Don says he's going to erase all my wrinkles when he has time.

Don, I remember seeing relatives churn like that. I collect old crocks so I have several myself.  (I did not mean my husband with that last remark.)  Your outhouse door is much more decorative than the one (missing) on this blog!

I am so disappointed that I missed the open house of Pioneer Village.  I didn't know about it until it was over.  Next time please let me know and I will take my grandson, Tyler.

Godmother,

I should come to this historic site and wear my General Custard outfit. It is very realistic.

Hi Barbara, I wanted to comment on this the other day but had to leave the house. I do not like using the outhouse, I'm spoiled now nothing but a indoor flush toilet for me.

Love the way you captured the flames in your photograph, very cool! LOL @ your old crock remark, you are so witty :o)
