The senate and the house overwhelmingly voted to extend the first time home buyers credit and to expand the credit to include home buyers who have lived in their existing homes for at least five years.

Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of REALTORS commented that this extension should help the housing industry to stabilize during the winter months that are typically slow months for the housing market.
