I have been an avid hunter most of my life. It is not that I enjoy shooting animals as much as it is that I love the the outdoors, wildlife, and nature in general. I help take care of a wildlife managent program on our family ranch and never realized until recently how important quality management of the deer population is in Texas.

Don't harvest enough and problems will come.

Take to many and more problems will follow.

Today was opening day of deer season in Texas and yours truly really didn't want to get out of bed to make the 30 minute drive..... so I stayed in bed later , got up drank some coffee, worked on active rain , then grabbed my lawn chair, and walked to the pasture behind our residence to wait on bambi. The walk is only 100 yards so if I wanted to go to bed so I could do so easily.

I got seated and then my pet cat walked up and started meowing...just what a great hunter needs.  Almost took up cat hunting !

Needless to say I did return home quickly wihout Bambi!

Hi Trey... I am guessing that Kitty had no idea what trouble he/she was causing... or perhaps he/she knew exactly what he/she was doing!

Howdy there Trey

Opening day here is this coming up Wednesday. I've gone out sout-en three of the areas that I hunt, well be going out to sout two others a little later today. The areas that I hunt are just down the road from the house.
Got my 50 cal. Missouri River Hawken's and two of my 44 cal. cap and ball six shooters ready to go. I take the six shooters, seeing that the Bears ain't gone to sleep as of yet. Ain't got to worry about my kitty cat, she don't like going outside.

Trey: Just got back from Colorado, have gone with the same folks for almost 40 years. We came back with allot of memories, enjoyed the beautiful country and no deer. We like to get out, set up camp and walk. Now will spend the season, when I can, down at the Dilley Texas ranch with my son's and grandson's.

Our town is astir with hunters.  You can feel the excitement in the air.  I get excited when I sit down at the table to a great plate of venison. :)

We don't worry about bears but I do worry about feral boar hogs!

Trey didn't have many birds this year. We have allot of wild hogs and some nice deer on the place. I think the drought and the crops didn't do well and not much water in tanks made bird season a little off for the season. Of course being down south lots of rattlesnakes.
