The City of Santa Clarita recently installed "Thank You, Buck" banners above some of the City's major roadways to raise public awareness about the bill introduced by Rep. Buck McKeon to limit the proposed Cemex mining operation in the Santa Clarita Valley near the Stonecrest development.
These 12 banners are under attack by local Democrats, saying that the banners assist McKeon in his re-election campaign (McKeon is a Republican). At issue is whether the City should have gotten involved in politics in the first place with what is apparently being interpreted as an endorsement by some residents of the area.
McKeon's office says that they were not involved in the design of the banners, nor were they informed that they were going to be installed.
The Cemex issue is definitely not an issue of Democrats vs. Republicans - it's an issue of preserving the quality of life for residents of the Santa Clarita Valley. Instead of attacking each other over party lines, it would better serve the Santa Clarita area if both political parties would work together to maintain the quality of life that we enjoy in the Santa Clarita Valley.
