Avoiding problem down the road by stopping them in their tracksWhen I was a young man, I was plagued by cluster migraine headaches. These episodes were so debilitating that recovery often took days. Even after the headaches ended, I would feel like I lost a fist fight and took a good pounding.

The doctors said that this was because my brain was literally bruised from the attacks, and that all I could do was learn to cope with the disorder. Fortunately, I became very adept at using beta blockers when I sensed a swelling behind my eyes and was able to squelch the onset of the worst part of the migraine.

It would stop the problem in its tracks!

For many years, I had no more episodes. However, recently, the headaches have started occurring again. And they are getting progressively worse. I don’t know if it’s the result of stress but it looks like I’m going to need medical treatment again. Since the beta blockers worked before, I’m going to try them again to head off the attacks before they explode in my head!

In business, there are also preventive measures that we can take to avoid disasters down the road. When we sense that initial pressure of something going awry, we can move quickly to squelch the problem in its earliest stages.

By doing so, we can eliminate the painful results of negligence and the debilitating effect to our bottom line!

And stop the problems in their tracks!

Morning, Richard.  I hope you find something that stops the headaches in their tracks.  There are too many good times yet to be had for that to derail you. :)  Happy Sunday my friend.

Migraines - never had thjem but know folks who do suffer from them. Good luck. You are correct - deal with an issue early and save the deal and the messy clean up later!

Richard,

You are so right.  Great analogy.

Like don't take those overpriced listings.

Richard, ouch, I had terrible migraines when pregnant with my oldest. I can sympathize and hope to never have them again. I get sinus headaches with no relief for days on end, bad enough.

What a great analogy you made, and of course, using a fantastic photo! Get better, take a moment to slow down a bit please!

We all asked for the "business migraines" by taking those listings that we thought we had to have.  I needed a beach-head for showing my Open House Marketing Strategies in a neighborhood that I had targeted.  The over-priced property served me well and neighbors saw that I worked my butttt off.  Now, butt-less I am real particular and turn the one's that don't fit my modus-operandus over to colleagues!

No more "business migraines"!  Hurrah!

Richard,

Sorry to hear about the headaches and I hope that you will be able to keep them at bay.  I like the analogy of not acting quickly in a business sense.  Very good advice my friend and now to goet to work on my business plan for 2010.

Richard,

Good analogy..we need to head off problems early on for our sakes and our clients too!  Here is something interesting...my husband also faced migraine problems (stress and light sensitive triggered them) but last year he had to go on blood thinners for a blood clot...no kidding not one since!  Now blood thinners are bad stuff...but it is an interesting side effect...

I know how bad those migraines are. . and I wish the best for you. I'm facing my own health difficulties and I have decided to make a new habit on my life . . like blogging.

It is exercise every day. . I have to do this for my kids.

Action is always better than reaction... keep making decisions towards a solution and moving forward. One leads to the next. It's a process and there's no 'one' decision... best wishes, you'll find the solution.

Oh Richard, hope you are feeling better and do not have many more attacks.  Mmm, maybe it is time spent on the computer? Loved your analogy, funny though we rest etc, when it is a health attack coming on, but as you  said preventive measures are best.  Take care of yourself.

Richard- I've only had 1 migraine episode and can only imagine what having them on an ongoing basis would be like.   Like you, my walking friend has had them for years and does take medication at the first hint of one.  I like your analogy to warding off an even larger problem

Best of luck with keeping these at bay.

Hi Richard,

I suffer from migraines and have had to change almost everything in my life to avoid them.  I keep medicine on me at all times, but my diet has been the easiest thing to change.  Low low sodium  intake and low carb and low to no sugar in my diet.  I know what do you eat then? Also No to very little MSG and if I ever go out to eat I have to take medicine before I start eating.  Fast food is a kiss of death.  So besides stress and all that other good stuff I have to work out regularly too.  Its been life changing but I refused tolet the migraines ruin my life like they have my moms.  Be strong and I hope they go away soon again for you , best wishes,

Kim

Richard...the headachs Real or manufactured can be a real downer.

As for your real headachs.Do yo eat much foods with the preservative...MSG.  My wife also has suffered almost her entire life with migranes.  When we got married 10 years ago, her headachs would put her down for 2-3 days.  I changedthe seasonings she was using to those without MSG.  within a month or two her headachs were 1/3 in numbers and gone much easier.

Richard, I wish you the best of luck in treating these horrible headaches.  I have many friends with similar problems and it is difficult.  I'm still not sure how to get the stress out of this business.

Richard:

I am also plagued with migraine headaches and have been for some time.  Yours sound as though they are from pressure behind your eyes - mine are in the back of my head.

The only thing that works for me is Fioricet. You may want to ask for some. Maybe it will help.

When you see a problem coming, it is certainly best to address it immediately before the situation gets out of hand.
