Crofton MD LeavesWe Crofton MD residents do love our tall, stately Oak Trees for the beauty and shade that they provide all summer.

Now that summer is over though, all I can say is, UGH!

The annual Crofton chore of leaf collection is in full progress from now until mid to end December. As a matter of fact, those last few dead leaves will probably still be there in the Spring.

It doesn't matter how many times you rake and bag them, the next day it looks like you didn't do a darn thing.

There are some people on my block that rake leaves every day. That's not a hobby, that's an obsession. I'm good for once every week or two.

The pile you see here is from this weekend.

Anne Arundel County MD trash collection has a special leaf pickup on Mondays during this time of year. They do have to be bagged and placed at the curb. At the height of the season, they'll send trucks in over the weekend to get ahead of collections.

I'm done for today. Last leaf blown, picked up and bagged. Sigh...there is never a "last leaf" in Crofton.

Richard, I do love fall for the beautiful rich colors it brings and the crunch of the fallen leaves beneath my feet and I do agree, the raking and piling of leaves is a lot of work! Happy Fall!

I know this will bring comments.  We wait....we pile... and then we mow them up...it usually works.  I'd really rather do it the old-fashioned way..put them in a pile and burn the suckers....what a great smell and so much fun!

It can be a chore, can't it?  Here we have to get in high gear once they start falling, lest they become covered in snow before I can get them up.

WANDA: I love this season too...but, wow, do we have a lot of mature trees here in Crofton.

SUZANNE: That brings back memories. Burning leaves in an old oil drum. It's been decades since that was legal.

JESSE/KATHY: That happens here too. Gets real ugly when they go through the snow blower on the driveway.

Leaves and pine needles,  they are on the ground, roof and gutters.  During the fall and winter there seems to be no end to them.  I have considered enjoying other peoples trees and have none of my own.

Hi Rich:

What a chore that is!

I was just saying that I'm thankful that we don't have trees around, I have enough yard work to do without them!

Richard, I love the term leafapaloozza.  I hope you get credit for it when it makes the dictionary.  Luckily, this is something we don't do very much in Florida.

Richard,

Wow! Now that's a lot of leaves! Sounds like weekends full of hard work to get them all picked up. Glad you finished up! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

What a chore! Around here it's not leaves, it's pine needles - everywhere! The rain gutters are a real pain.... :) This is a good photoblog Rich! Would love to see it in the ARPBG!
