2009 Fort Myers Beach 23rd Annual Sand Sculpting Contest - Day 5

The 2009 Fort Myers Beach Sand Sculpting Championships are in high gear with 16 National and World Champions working feverishly to meet the deadline for completion and judging. Crowds drove, cycled, walked, bused and trollied to the Holiday Inn on Fort Myers Beach to see the carvers up close.

Carvers use different things for inspiration and some of the entries reflect an eclectic flair.

Hi Bill, thanks for looking at my creek photos. I would love to know more about HDR but I get too obsessive and with all of my websites, etc., I just don't dare dabble in that ... yet ... due to time constraints (and financial constraints!).

I lived in SRQ for a few years so enjoyed seeing this sand sculpture post. Thank you, again.

Hi Susie & Debi, Our annual sand festival is a tremendous draw for the isaland. Hey, Debi: If they lasted forever we would need a new excuse to enjoy the beach !

Great, great pictures, Bill! I particularly like the old time telephone. I used to go to the Padre Island sandbuilding contests all the time, but that was decades ago now!
