Pete Sessions Compares Being Female to Being a Smoker

Despite repeated campaign promises to always be in the District on weekends, Pete Sessions is working overtime today to kill health care reform.

His latest outburst on the House floor drew "a burst of chatter" in the room, kind of like it does in bi-partisan settings here at home when Sessions gets stuck for an answer and says the first thing that comes to mind, usually a tangent about "socialism" or "Nancy Pelosi."

In his latest gaffe, Pete Sessions defended the insurance industry's practice of charging higher rates to women, comparing the practice to charging higher rates for smokers.

So, in Pete's mind, being a woman is just like being a smoker--being female just a destructive habit some people pick up that the rest of us shouldn't pay for.

And to add insult to injury for women, we pay an average of 48% more in health insurance premiums just because we dare to get pregnant, have fertility issues, or "allow" ourselves to be domestically abused. And now we're equated to smokers. Got burka?

Yeah Ron and considering this is not taken out of context, it seems Pete has a low opinion of women.

Yep, nothing really new here. I am sure it was just one of the Freudian slips. I am sure he has women friends :o). Thanks for sharing.

Brenda, oh and he probably has many gay friends as well. As long as women and minority groups don't enjoy the same rights he does, he's pretty happy with his circle of friends :-)
