When I was a teenager I used to wonder how people could get so fired up about stupid political stuff. I would hear my mom and her friends talking about some law that was being considered and they would really get agitated about it. Who cares, I would think to myself. Its just a law. Let the people we elect do their job, and be done with it. I have all kinds of fun things to do. Why worry?

As I got older I cared more about what was going on around me. I came to realize that what happens in government does effect me. Who gets elected, new laws, and the whole political process do effect me. Now that I have kids, I am really interested in what is going on. I do not want my kids having to pay for everyone else. I do not want my kids to be buried under a mountain of debt before they even become adults.

The other day, someone asked "Don't you have anything else to do besides follow politics and bug your Congress person?" Yes, I have many things to do.  Staying on top of what is going on in our government is like watching paint dry. I would rather be doing all kinds of other stuff. But unlike paint, which stays the same color, our leaders, change theirs according to how they feel. Even though they stood for idea
A last week, they now stand for idea B.  We have to watch them.

I now understand what the Founding Fathers meant when they talked about responsibility. It does not mean just working hard and being a good person. It does not just mean paying your taxes and not breaking the law. It means getting involved in the process and standing up for what you believe. Still more of us need to do the same.

I'm with you Kevin.  I'm all over this.  I agree.  Plus people need to speak up while their voices can still be heard.  There will be a time when speaking up won't matter as it's too far gone.  I have to speak up while the time exists for me to make a difference.  Good post.

Kevin, I hate politics and would much rather watch the paint dry.  But, like you, I see out poiticians doing things I don't consider good for the country.  When this happens, it's time for everyone to take notice and work at fixing what is wrong.

Kevin - I came to political awareness late in life. I always was able to spew the talking points and repeat the babble of the masses, but then I actually decided to check things out for myself. What a schock. So, yes, now I do things that I would never have done before, politically that is.

I couldn't agree more.  I remember when my parents watched the news I would think 'How BORING!' now I have to shush my kids so I can hear what is happening locally and in the big picture too.

When 50% of your income goes to pay taxes, it's important to fight it tooth and nail.  Yes politics is boring, but if you don't watch out it could bankrupt you.

I'm with Rob. The economic rape we endure on a daily basis, makes it of paramount importance.

Israel- I gotta give you accolades on one thing. You started pointing some of this stuff out a few years ago and I disagreed with you. I had tunnel vision. You saw it for what it was.

I wish I had been wrong. The Federal Reserve combined with Big Government equals economic horror.

Kevin,  Many of us became aware of politics later in life.  I came from the generation who opposed Viet Nam.  We did not look at it as a political statement.  It was to us in isolation. It was a war we opposed.  It existed through two administrations both Democrat and Republican.

We became passionate because the young and brightest of our classmates and friends and fathers were coming home in boxes.  No end in sight.  No progress being made.  One horrific day after the other. We took to the streets with signs and marches. We protested and created havoc.  We marched on Washington and snarled traffic. Our activists were shot down on a college campus because of their protest.  We had the attention of the world.

Once Viet Nam was over we all sighed a collective sigh of relief and went on with our lives. No battles left to fight.  Other than the Carter years, it really was not all that bad.  We were busy with our homes, our jobs, our children, and our keeping up with the Jones's.  Politics went on whether we paid attention or not.  The Let Bob Do It mentality prevailed.  Why vote?  It's only one vote what difference can it make?

Suddenly, at least it seemed sudden, our world was being thrown into chaos.  Our once impenetrable country was attacked before our eyes.  Our innocence was lost - never to be restored. When you try to tell someone now  we have been infiltrated by sleepers they laugh at you.  When you try to convince people there are those whose goal it is to bring America to her knees, they accuse you of listening to too much Fox News.

Many who know me, know I pulled the Democratic lever no matter what.  That's what my parents did.  That's what their parents did.  One day something just seemed wrong to me.  What I was hearing did not add up.  I began to question and certainly did not like the answer I was getting.

I don't believe either party has the solution.  I do believe that this administration is influenced by 60's radical ideology. The elitest Cloward-Piven Strategy is forming before our eyes like an ominous storm cloud.  Our country is on the road to collapsing financially onto itself.

If I am not mistaken, Bin Laden promised to destroy us financially.  Our stock market was closed after 9/11 for at least a week. when it reopened it was very fragile.  Fear and uncertainty was reflected in the market. Wall Street took a dive but then it recovered.  We forgot the threat thinking the worst was over.

Well my friends, it had not even begun.  Any deeply orchestrated plan takes time to implement and when it does, just like the attacks of 9/11, it marches forward like a well oiled machine.  The wheels were in motion and we had no clue.

If you wonder were those passionate students went who protested the Viet Nam war at their own peril - you do not need to look far.  We are at the Tea Parties and town meetings.  We may need thick glasses, canes and walkers, but by God we are there!  It's time to wake up America. The heritage of your forefathers is calling out to you.  It's time to pay your dues and take back your country from the oppressors.

I believe our Seniors can see the handwriting on the wall much clearer than those who played follow the leader. I am hopeful that in the upcoming elections we can mobilize the largest voting block in this country to turn the tide.  I may not be able to fit into my tie dyed tees, or our bell bottom jeans, and I'll never find that Peace sign necklace again, but I will be there.

I think I was branded REPUB at birth in South Carolina....made the mistake of voting for Carter - MonDULL 1x and think/HOPE that many Obamites will have the SAME FEELING in 2012 that I had with second chance to vote for Carter.

Somehow, when they start dipping into your pocketbook, it makes a difference.

Repub candidates for Tom Perrello's seat area already e-mailing me for money and support!!!

Who can carry the vote for the Republicans?  According to a poll I saw Mike Huckabee is at the top of the list.

2012? Jeb Bush and Bobby Jindal

No Bush will ever be President again. Ever. It would be the height of folly to let Jeb represent The Republican Party.

I'm not in favor of another Bush either.  Jindal and Pawlenty are considered by some as viable.

I've  been MIA for a while... just had a baby this summer and I haven't had much time to blog lately!  As usual, your's is the first post I chose to read when I came back!  You said what I've been thinking!

I was screaming at my t.v. late Saturday night when that troll Nancy Pelosi had the GALL to say that healthcare reform was "bi-partisan" with ONE Repulican vote.  Are you kidding me?  I wanted to pull the batteries from that autonomic stepford wife and stick her in a closet.  AHHHHhhhhh!

Kevin, You are so right, I was just thinking that my friend is 35 and she is like I was at that age, not even concerned with Politics but Just wait until they start following what is going on and we will see more, many more becoming concerned. We just need to keep our blood pressure down and our passing of information up. Good Job!

Good post Kevin!

Chiming in!  Me too Bonnie.  I didn't realize the importance of being involved until I was older.  ; )

I'm not in favor of another Bush either.  And I'm certainly not in favor of Palin.  I see her as too polarizing.  Not to say that she isn't a wonderful woman.

Great post Kevin. I used to hate politics until I woke up and realized what is happening to our freedoms. I can't wait to "recycle" congress in 2010.

Kevin, I was shocked watching Hannity last night at how many people had no idea who the vice president was.  It amazes me how ignorant our youth are when it comes to politics.

Kevin, the talk is growing louder about "HOW TO STOP THE FEDERAL GOVERNMNET".  Many are alarmed about the power grab of the Feds and their usurping of the States rights.  If this movement continues to gain ground and laws are passed and others repealed that give the States back the power the 10 Amendent gave them, the US would revert back to what the founding fathers intended.  Additionally, each State would pass laws making certain States bastions for liberals or conservatives, or somewhere in between.

My question to you is, how likely do you think it is that the different segments of society will get excited about this type of change and fight for it?  Myself, I can envision strong conservatives fighting for this type of government because they could choose to live in states with laws that did not go against their moral code.  I can't decide if there is enough motivation for liberals to embrace it.

We both know that those that want the Feds to hold all the power will fight it to the bloody end.

Your thoughts?

Any liberals out there want to give their insight?

If America doesn't strip away multiple levels of Government and simplify as much as possible, things are not going to get better. Any semblence of prosperity is an illusion perpetrated by our financial masters. The Federal Reserve System allows it's ruling body to control exactly what happens with our economy at will. It is not a sustainable system. It has a finite life span and at some point, the chickens will come home to roost. Money is becoming worth less and less as time goes on. At some point, it becomes so devalued as to become worthless. Something catastrophic needs to occur before the vast majority of Americans will open their eyes. Republican and Democrat is really just a different name for the same master.

AMEN to that Kevin!!!!!!

Israel, What you said here.....

If America doesn't strip away multiple levels of Government and simplify as much as possible, things are not going to get better.

I've been saying this for YEARS! Our current system with congress, senate, electoral college, etc...doesn't work for this time and period!! They are not doing what we the people want. Therefore we need to FIRE them and if they want to pass a law, pass an amendment, whatever then they need to have permanent voting Kiosks set  up for us to go vote at and tell them what we want! If we weren't paying them to sit on their butts we could afford permanent voting locations! We have the internet. We could set up a secure voting system like our banking system and vote via the internet. Just stop treating us like stupid idiots.
