Living on a Busy Street by Sandy Shores

Yesterday, I got a call from someone driving by a home that I have for rent. The house is on a busy street.  There's great visibility when it comes to renting it, and it's a great place to have a real estate sign. It's free advertising for me. I get a lot of calls on this house.  But, not everyone wants to live on a busy street. It has a big fenced yard, with beautiful big shade trees.  But, for people with little ones they may be afraid that their kids may run out into the street. That certainly is a valid concern.

The tenants that have lived in the house throughout the years have varied. Most had pets, but when I think about it, none of them had real small children.  One tenant brought home a pet cow one day. Boy, was my phone ringing off the hook with neighbors calling about that cow.  When I saw it, I had to chuckle. Now, I have to admit, I've never had a tenant bring a cow into a residential neighborhood, before. Oh, but with rentals there's a first time for everything.

None of the tenants that have lived in this house on the busy street seemed to mind the street out front or the traffic noise.  I suppose that different houses suit different people.

Did I mention that the railroad tracks are 3 blocks away?

Sandy, Traffic noise & the train?  But you know what matters to some folks doesn't to others.  I like the sound of a train, especially at night, as long as the track isn't a few yards from my house.

I also like the sound of a train. I wouldn't like the busy street, but if the price is right I suppose you can rent anything, especially to a cow. :)

Sandy, Some traffic noises bother me especially if the bedrooms are in front of the house and the trucks are going by.  I'm not far from the RR and that doesn't bother me at all...maybe it's what you get used to.

Hi Sandy, The first place my husband & I rented was on a very busy street and it didn't bother us at all!  No train tracks, but the firetrucks leaving the station across the street were a little noisy :-)

Before I had children, I lived on a busy street. I don't remember it being much of a deterrent. Back then- price, area, fence and dogs allowed were important.

A cow- you could write a book!

A real cow?  I've seen pigs, chickens, rooster, and rabbits but never a pet cow!  Too funny.

Sandy

So true, homes on a busy street are great for signs.

Good luck and success.

Sandy, Whether you have a great house on a busy street or an ugly house on a quiet street, you have a challenge. It just shows how good you are at marketing...

Sandy, a cow? A real cow??? I have a no pet rule that tenants love to break, but they have never had a cow!!!

As for the busy street, there is a shoe for every foot! I once had a buyer that insisted on a busy street....his reason...it would be easy to tell people where he lived!!

Susan, I think that everyone is a little bit different.  Some don't mind the traffic or the noise.

Sandy, You comment cracked me up. The cow didn't mind the busy street, but the neighbors minded the cow.

Carole, I think that you're right, it is what you get used to.

Mary, Oh, going back to the old days.  It seems funny the things that used to bother us, but probably today couldn't tolerate.

Amy, I also lived on a busy street on the railroad tracks.  I hated it!

Wayne, With rentals we never quite know what to expect.

Irene, Yes, a real cow. That was a first for me on a rental house.

Lou, Busy streets are great for free advertising.

Caren, Yes we had a real cow living in a residential neighborhood for a couple of days.  The neighbors were quite upset.  Here is the post about the cow in the backyard

Love the story of the man that wanted a place on a busy street.

Sandy,

I remember the cow...

I would not want to live on a very busy street...renting or not.

As for those train tracks, apparently you can ignore those...as long as the horn does not sound in the middle of the night??

Oompa, living on a busy street is better than being homeless.  People need to be grateful to have a place to live.  Mooooo!

Hi Ann,  That cow was a story to remember, wasn't it?  Grat one. I lived on a busy street next to the railroad, it was a horrible experience for me.

Hi TOTO,  I agree, living on a busy street would be better than being homeless. So true!  We must all be grateful for a place to live, even if you're a cow - and MOOOOOOOOOOOo to YOU!

Sandy,

The cow story was classic!  I live far from the train track but can still hear them at night...

Ann, That cow was too funny, wasn't it.  I am wondering what I will find next time around with another tenant. The fun never stops with rental houses.

I could never live on a busy street, just my personal preference, but I like the peace and quiet.
