Wow it has been 20 years today that the gates opened between East and West Berlin ...and the start of the Berlin Wall to be torn down.

Its funny how sometimes history gets "better" with age and some people get credit for things they didn't do. You know what I mean kind of like Woodstock  500,000 showed up ...but you have 1,500,000 say they were there for the show...

Well I can say I was not at Woodstock for sure....and I'm not even going to tell you I was in Berlin on June 12, 1987 when Ronald Reagan gave that very nice speech. You know the one that is given the credit for the wall coming down....

And I am not saying if I was or if I wasn't in Berlin on November 9th 1989 some what over 2 years after Ronald Reagen's speech when the gate was finally opened and the people started taking the wall down. That was so much fun President Ronald Reagan even showed up to take a few swings at the wall with a hammer...

speech by President Ronald Reagan thanks to the Internet you can read or listen to the speech here

Just remember not everything that is written is true and not everything your government tells you is true and like always "I may not know what I'm talking about".....or do I? .........peace zane

Hi Zane,  Quite a milestone in history.  Remember every night the news would count the number of attempts to scale the wall ?

Hi Zane, Some people believe all of what they hear, and some people believe none of what they hear, and the truth is usually found somewhere in the middle.  I remember seeing people taking down the wall on TV - I was really happy for them.

Zane - There is one universal truth however!  The older you become, the shorter the passed time since these things happened seems!

And the #1 biggest regret I have had in life, is that I missed Woodstock:-)

I never had any choice to go to Woodstock, and I was only 9 when the wall came down. I'm not ashamed to admit that that at 9 years old I had many more important things in my life than world history.  I love to hear and read about it now though.
