Stainless Steel Appliances? Does this work?

I have heard of a special paint that can transform regular kitchen appliances to a stainless steel look. If anyone has personally used this product, I would really like to know what you thought. It sounds really good but maybe too good to be true??

It is called Liquid Stainless Steel.

Here is a couple photos from their website:

Here is the link to this product called Liquid Stainless Steel: http://www.liquidstainlesssteel.com/

Please let me know if you have personally used this and what you thought of it.

I am not so sure about that.  It sounds to good to be true.  Best bet is to wait it out or try selling yours on craigslist or something then buy the one you like.  I would be really careful about what they say it will do and on what surfaces.

Never heard of this. I would have to say seeing is believing on this one! Rhonda

OMG it's going to look like that dribbly paint on the do-it-yourself shows!  Avoid!

The only way to know if it looks real or not is to see if fingerprints are immediately revealed upon touching the surface.

never heard of it but it sounds cool. I wonder if it really works.. you know what they say "if it sounds to good to be true"

If it's not too expensive, you can buy a can and experiment with it before using it on the real thing.  I checked out the website and the samples look great.  It probably needs to be applied evenly so that the brush strokes don't show.  It's an intriguing product--thanks for sharing.

The picture doesn't get me very excited.  I am not seeing any real shine to it.  Not to mention if this picture was taken by the manufactorer, this is the best it could ever look.  Also, what happens to the controls and levers on the machine.  Mine are looking kindof yellow right now as a matter of fact.

Julie - I had not heard of the paint but there is a product out there that is more like a stainless steel veneer - you cut it to the size you want and carefully apply it to the front of the appliance. I am sure I saw it on Designed to Sell on HGTV. Looked pretty good.

Julie, THANK YOU so much.  I've wanted to paint my dishwasher stainless but couldn't find paint.  I know there is a self adhesive stainless steel sheeting you can buy to do that but can't find that anywhere either.  I'm headed to the website right now.  Thanks again!

The product I've seen is real stainless in a can. I've never seen it used though.

Julie,

This is a first for me.  I have never heard of this product.  What a great inexpensive way to update a kitchens look.  Please let me know if you decide to use it. I would be interested to see how you find the results. Good Luck and continued success!

I have seen a similar product on HGTV that comes in a roll, kind of like a contact paper that has stainless steel look you just peel and stick, so there is no brush strokes, it is about $30.00 a roll.  If I find out more about it I will post again.

Julie: The secret is in the application. If you apply it exactly as directed you will get a finish that closely approximates the look of stainless steel. If you apply it with less skill it will look awful. You should practice with it a couple of times before actually applying it to anything permanent.

Sounds interesting, I wonder if it does work, or is it going to look like those cars people spray paint with house paint?  Would love to know if it works.

I have tried it. The manufacturer sent is a sample kit to try in our Ben Moore store.

THE KIT RETAILS FOR $150 BUCKS AND IT SUCKS.

Their is no possible way way is can look "real", because the recommended applicator (a brush made out of cosmetice sponge-stuff) leaves lap lines. The sponge is about 8" across, in an attempt to minimize the lines, apparently.

All we tried to use it on was a dryer door, for display purposes, and it was awful. The dryer door was white to begin with, in good shape, and only 16" across. It looked really bad. Wavy lines, not smooth like steel, bumpy. Like when you spray something dirty with silver paint, and all you see is texture.

Try to find that silvery contact paper. Then come back and tell me where you got it!!!

I found a roll of faux finish stainless steel contact paper roll in Lowes in contat paper section for $6.50, I tried to put it on my dishwasher, but it is very hard to keep it from forming the bubbles, I was alone doing it, so may be I will try to do it with someone's else help.

If anybody knows a better way to put that paper on let me know, how to avoide bubbles.
