Tarryall Historic Home Tour - I need Your Advice!

Hey everyone, Sunday I went on an historical home tour - and I found a fantastic home! I want to share all the fabulous features of this property with you, and see what you think before I put in an offer. Of all the homes I saw, this one really caught my eye! Until now, although I love historical properties, I've always thought of them as 'money pits', and have been afraid to buy one, but this one doesn't look so bad.

Like most historical properties, it will need a little work here and there, but I think I'm up to the task.  Please let me know what your thoughts are on this - purchasing real estate is SUCH an emotional process, wouldn't you agree?

                       ;)

The owner is even willing to leave some of the furnishings! WhooHaa!

So. What do you think? Should I take the plunge? LOL

This is actually the old Tarryall Post Office and General Store built in 1895, and was once the hub of a thriving community of lumberjacks, miners and their families. The old school house, originally built in 1898, was replaced by this larger building using the original bell and belfry in 1921. It still stands today, and is used for church services, weddings and funerals. These buildings are privately owned, and to my knowledge, not for sale.

Tarryall is gorgeous country - an amazing valley that stretches for miles at the base of the Tarryall Mountain Range. Everywhere I went, I saw free range cattle and horses all over this prime ranch land. Oh, how I love the west, and Colorado in particular!

This area is one of 11 National Natural Landmarks in the State of Colorado

Tarryall Mountains, National Natural Landmark

The ranch house in the foreground is an old homestead. Amazingly built and preserved, it is two stories. Look how small it is in comparison to it's surroundings. These are SERIOUS mountains!

Debi,

Two seater "historic homes" are pretty rare. A little color here and there, and this one is a keeper.

LOL Richard - I'm thinking a little paint and it's good to go! You're right about the two seater thing, don't think I've seen one before. Ah, such a unique property.... It just screams "ME", don't you think?

Looks like one of my listings! I'm a little upset that you didn't call me.

But I'm even more upset that you didn't mention it's best amenity......

The fact that it's has waterfront views from every hole window in the place!!!

Charles, The wallpaper is tacky - too floral for my taste. I plan to strip it and paint....As for the appliances - it includes a wonderful wood cookstove, (no problem, I don't cook anyway), and the ice is stored in the shed. It'll do :)

Craig - I was afraid if I called you, you'd buy it out from under me! Simply couldn't risk it... And you're right! I completely forgot about the waterfront plus! When did you go out there and snap this shot? See, I knew you'd be nosing around!

Hey Debi,

Well, nothing a little paint won't fix!  LOL. But seriously, Tarryall does look gorgeous and I will have to get out there to visit one of these days.

Hi Shirley - You know, This was really a big selling point for me. Nothing like a brisk walk on a cold winter morning to get your day going! :)

Michael - I had to negotiate for it, but yes. The catalog stays!

Steve, I agree! On both points - It really is a beautiful part of the world, you would not be disappointed! If you visit, be sure to stop by - I'll need some help with the painting!

Debi you had me for a moment.  I would advice against acquiring this property however you did take some awesome photos and the scene in the last photo is spectacular.

Oh you little trickster Debi, I too believed you found some cool historical home! I gotta say I'm not fond of your Jack & Jill bath, I like mine to flush and be located indoors, LOL.

Great photos as usual!

Hi Mary - Well then you'll have to join us as we sit on the porch and sip wine...I do plan to have an inspection, I want to know how many more years I have on the 100+ year roof. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi Jennifer - LOL! I'll take your advice under consideration!

Hello Cynthia - But I did! I did! LOL I might decide to have the 'chair' they're leaving on the sunporch hooked up.... We'll see....

Great sense of humor, Debi!  I love the black and white shots.  It really captures the natural beauty of the property in its own dilapidated sort of way.

Debi ~  I say go for it. It joins with nature and no need for air condition. This should keep the costs down.

Hey Monique! It gets really hot here in the summer - but there's always a nice breeze. With the home being so open, you're right, I won't need air conditioning!  These are important things for a home buyer to consider.... LOL
