A while ago, I blogged “Oh oh, my purse fell in the toilet” and I told of that misadventure.  This is chapter two.  It really did mess me up--ruined my Palm Pilot and I thought it had ruined my cell phone.  Actually the cell phone dried out, after a few days, and when I put in a new battery it worked.

Today, I was asking for information from a listing agent that was in an airport taking off for Italy.  He has a blackberry and can get emails while he is traveling around the world.  I thought this would be great since I am going to Spain next month and could stay connected.  I asked him what he recommended and he emailed me back it is a BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition Smartphone (there is an on-line discount for $100 right now).  I was quite impressed but I would not be able to use it to open the key boxes.  Also, I only go out of the country maybe once or twice a year and I think the Verizon guy said I could rent one.

I decided to get the Palm® Treo™ 700p Smartphone (it is also $100 off on an on-line discount).  I also am buying insurance--nope it is not going in the toilet but there is always another catastrophe around the corner.

You technical folks already know this stuff so just ignore me.

Congrats on your new toy! Once you figure out your way around it, you'll realize it may be the best money you ever spent. Don't try to learn everything at once, just keep the manual nearby and when you have a few minutes, tackle a new feature... read about it while you play with the phone. After a few weeks of this, you should have it pretty well figured out. Enjoy!

How painful!  I've always been a Palm person and just upgraded my Treo 600 to a 700wx...however...I went Windows (thinking I would consolidate some of my crm) and I'm still not totally sure if that was the right move.  I REALLY miss my Palm Task list.  Window does not have anything that compares.

Also, with my last Treo, I learned about buying insurance after dropping my first one on a cement floor.  I ALWAYS buy insurance on my phones now.  It's pretty inexpensive and I actually went through 3 Treos over the past two years.   What a bargain!

Our phones are such an integral part of our day to day lives and business...good luck, Leslie!

Leslie, I too have the Palm 700wx from Sprint.  I wrote a couple of posts on the Treo and accessories for it.  If you care to review them, just go to my blog and search on Treo.  Out of respect to you, I won't post the link here.  Good luck to you and wise move on the insurance!

Hi Leslie,

I hope you know that I only posted a link out of providing information.   I have nothing but respect for you.

If Active Rain did not want us to add links to be useful or add content to our commetns, then I would assum they would not allow us to do so.   How is adding a link any different than talking about searching your blog?

Your post is very timely with what I've gone through.

Rhonda,

I know Leslie (super sweet lady) and I can guarantee that she saw the link you posted in her blog as exactly what it was, someone trying to provide useful, helpful information. I agree with you, if the ActiveRain guys didn't think there were times when adding a link to a post would be useful and in good taste, they would just disable the ability to do it.

In fact, I think that the link you added was used in the exact way that it is intended to be used.

Leslie,

I can't believe it actually dried out. That's crazy. I like Ryan's suggestion of keeping the guide handy and trying to learn one new function at a time. I just got a new phone too. Unfortunately the only features I have learned outside the browser are the games :)

Hi all, thank you for the encouragement.  I remember saying to the salesman that "I hope I can work it."  I hesitated just a few minutes about getting the insurance--but I know me--I have dropped my telephone more than a few times.

Rhonda, do not worry about adding your link--I think people have the best of intentions--until they prove me wrong.
