In my continuing quest to educate myself I will be continually educated today!

I'm off to an early start this morning because I have to be in Cleveland Georgia (about a two hours drive) by 9:00 A.M. today for an all day continuing education class.

And although I have plenty of C.E. real estate credits, this eight hour course is required to maintain my Georgia Auctioneer license. Auctioneer licenses in Georgia are renewed every two years, and I definitely don't want to give mine up for not meeting the licensure requirements.

So I'm in for a long day of driving and learning, and naturaly, it's supposed to rain a lot and that should make the ride more interesting during Atlanta rush-hour traffic.

But I'll be seeing some old friends of mine in the auctioneer community, and it will be fun catching up with everything that is going on throughout the state. So I'm really looking forward to the day's activities!

There's just one problem though:

When you get in a room full of Auctioneers, it's hard to get a word in edgewise!

Ah, CEU's ~ I have to take 16 more early next year and then I will be done for awhile...

This is an important post. It shows the dedication to quality practice on the part of real estate practitioners that few consumers understand.

I'm way over my required hours for licencing in MD and VA. As a broker, I have to take additional hours in VA.

However, I get my hours banked in the summer months so I'm not out there driving in the early or late dark. Hate to drive in the dark.

All that said, one of the BORs in which I hold membership is close to home and offers wonderful convenient classes. If I could carry hours over, I'd be set for about 5 years.

Love CE. Virginia permits CE online, but I go to the classes because I enjoy them and always, always learn something. I can also share some of my experience with others in the class.

Safe travels... sounds like an interesting day. I've never hung out with a bunch of auctioneers. You should record some of the conversation... Safe travels.

I did not know that Auctioneers are Licensed. How many class hours do you take to become one and what is invloved to renew? Just curious!

A two-hour drive?!!??! When I do my CE, it's only a few minutes from my home. Put your car on auto-pilot and take a nap, lol. Drive safe and have fun :)

Sounds like you are in for a fun day (not the 2 hour drive). As Lenn says this post shows how dedicated you are and getting those classes you want and not just need. Do you use your auctioneer status very often? Hope you learn some new things, are able to share your experiences, visit many old friends and have fun!

I with you and Lenn, Richard. CE classes are what you make of them, they can be fun and educational or drudgery. I have attended about 40 hours this year myself in addition to helping set up two CE seminars.

Learning only makes us better at what we do. I do myself do not see a down side.

Are the classes given in auctioneer speak? I bet a lot of information is covered in a very short time. I guess you get a taste of bidding when you raise your hand to ask a question.

If it weren't for CE classes, some agents would never be back in the classroom(and it shows in their practice) !!!

Interesting...now I would like to see a post written in auction verbiage or whatever it is they teach you all!

Richard - Drive carefully, enjoy your class, and try not to auction off your neighbor's pen and paper. :)

Drive carefully Richard. I hope you have a good instructor and the lessons learned will be informative and valuable.

Even though CE classes are offered online and through home study, I much prefer the class room. You can reconnect with agents and talk shop. I think we will be seeing auctions become more commonplace, being a auctioneer is a good skill to have.

I hope this is an interesting day for you. It's difficult for me to sit anywhere for eight hours, but I know there is much to be learned.

Richard, I missed this blog! I didn't know you are an auctioneer! BTW, is that picture the one you got in trouble for taking?

I have my last required course this week, and I will be one year ahead of re-licensing. No more last minute Kamikaze learning.

Richard - Continuing Education is so important .... even if/when it is not required to maintain a license. Enjoy your day ...wishing you safe travels and good learning.

Being in a room full of auctioneers will help to hone your listening skills. LOL No nodding off during class.

Have fun and learn lots. I love learning and although I did not like driving, I have gotten fond of it. Be careful driving through the rain. Learning while driving is another "sport" I love. Audio books are fun.

I am looking forward to my very first CE classes coming up. I really try to set time aside to study on my own but it is nice to have a class to give me a reason to sit down and do it.

Richard...you Autioneers talk so fast, you chould get the 8 hr cose done in about 3 hours. No?

Richard: I think it's really cool that you are an auctioneer. Is your license good for auctioning just real estate, or any thing you can sell?

Just finished my CE and learned much on how the rules constantly change. Classroom interaction keeps my interest. I actually enjoy it.

Hi everybody ...

It was a long day, I just got back. I'm running a bit behind so I will respond in a post tomorrow morning about my experiences as an auctioneer!

Richard- My mother is an auctioneer also as well as a Realtor. She goes pretty far for CE classes as well. I never thought to ask why. Are there not enough local classes? I just finished the brokers course myself. It's always good to learn something new.

Richard...we all need every continuing hour of education that we can fit into our schedule....we can never get too much!

There are so many things we have to remember, as real estate professionals. I'm glad we have the continuing education requirements. It's just one of the many things that sets us apart from other industries.

License renewal coming up next year, so this is a reminder to get geared up for some more learning. I love taking classes -- but its better when they don't cost! smile

The auction market has not caught on here. We see a few but I know some areas they are very common.

Glad you made it there and back safely! I sure hope the NJ Legislature passes continuing ed requirement during its lame duck session. Here in New Jersey, once you get your license there are no further educational requirements! That's just crazy!!
