Sales Training--what is needed for agents today?

By
Real Estate Agent with Damon Gettier & Associates, REALTORS- Roanoke Va Short Sale Expert

I have a question that I would love some serious thoughtful answers to.  I own a couple of RE/MAX Franchises and I am lucky enough to have some true superstars in the business.  These superstars are willing to help train new and experienced agents.  I am not talking about agency, contracts, addendum's and amendments.  While those are all important.....we do a pretty good job of covering those already.

My question is, what training would be good for new and experienced agents?  What traits should we try to instill?  What skill sets do you think would be most valuable to these agents?  What one trick or skill do you wish you had known your first year in the business?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I came into the business after years as a legal secretary and title company closer. I thought I knew it all.HA! I kept coming across more questions than I could find answers to.  I have come to the conclusion that a few discussion groups, maybe 2 or 3 hours each, devoted to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the National Association of Realtors would be very beneficial. Have a couple of experienced agents run the discussion citing examples of situations pertaining to each section.  So much could be learned by all involved. Best of Luck to You and your Agents!

Damon, Good speaking with you today.

If you could get all 35 of your agents on ActiveRain, the training is right in front of you. They could start individual blogs or an office blog. You could even start your own group. Whatever questions come up, the answers can be found on AR. Rather than a weekly/monthly obligatory office meeting..yawn..boring...there could be an ActiveRain discussion/blog. Everyone could post their own listings, stories about transactions, what buyers are looking for, etc. You could talk about community events, office projects, charity, local business. The list is endless.

An as an office...support each other by commenting. Just think how this might impact buyers and sellers in your area. The other brokerages would be looking to emulate you!

Let me know what you all decide. All the best.
