little shack in Missouri by Ann HaydenSomething will be coming in the mail St. Louis Missouri Home Owners...Tax Bills are in the Mail

Yes, St. Louis Missouri, the real estate tax bills are in the mail and most of you are not going to be happy about the amount due.  While property values have dropped about 9%, the amount due for your real estate tax is actually going up.  One might ask why or how.  It is due to the school districts.  Yes, most of the districts have lost money so they have opted to raise the rates charged to home owners.

Shouldn't they have to budget and cut back like the rest of us?  Or does the education system not have to be financially responsible?  What does this teach our children?  Does the school district have a blank check?

How do you feel about a tax increase when values are decreasing?

This is certainly the bad thing. Taxes have to go up to pay for consumption...

Charles,

Why does it cost so much to educate a child?  Why are the "products" of the system not ranking with countries spending much less?  Why do the schools need to have marble entries?

And what about all the lottery/casino money?  Where did it go?

Just curious,

Ann

Ann I don't like my taxes going up either, education is one thing that I do not mind my tax dollars going to as long as they are accountable for them.  I no longer have any kids in public school, but during the time that I did, I saw many cuts that were not go and hurt the education that my children were receiving.

By the way I think that the house in the picture would have a serious roof issue with a FHA Appraisal :)

George,

Yes, education is important but I think the districts need to better account for the money they spend.  Here in Missouri the lottery and casinos were pushed upon us claiming so much money would be gained and taxes would not be raised.  The money, as far as I know, is still being fought about and the schools do not get what they were promised.

I know of some serious waste several of the districts that are raising the rates.

And I agree, the house needs a lot of work...

Hi Ann, Oh, tax bills, I really dislike tax bills, as I know so many others do too.  Not a fun time of year.
