I received this action alert today from Peta...please read and help us help them!!

Dear Kristin,

When PETA found out that ShopRite was selling glue trapsone of the cruelest pest-control devices on the market today—we contacted the company and let it know that animals who get stuck to them suffer for days before they finally die of starvation, dehydration, self-mutilation, and shock. Patches of skin, fur, or feathers are torn off their bodies as they frantically struggle to escape the relentless adhesive.

But so far, this has not persuaded ShopRite to do the right thing and get rid of the traps once and for all, nor has the fact that other companies—including CVS, Rite Aid, Albertsons, Safeway, and most recently, Dollar General—have banned glue traps because they are so cruel.

We need you to speak up for the rats, mice, and other animals who sometimes try to chew off their own limbs in a desperate attempt to free themselves from these cruel devices. Please write to ShopRite now and demand that it stop selling glue traps today!

Thank you for your support and for speaking up for rats, mice, and other animals.Sincerely,

Tracy Reiman

I do hope they can find a quicker way to get rid of pests.

Kristin

Pretty gruesome thought; innocent house pets could get caught in these like parakeets, lizards, and such.

Glue traps bug the life out of me. I understand a need to keep the little buggers out of the kitchen, actually the house in general, but not with the use of glue traps.

I have been able to release a fair number of mice caught in glue traps.  A little vegetable oil after moving a safe distance away from the house, and the little guys go free.  On the other hand, I have never been able to give a snap trap victim a second chance.  There have been a couple instances where a mouse got a leg snapped, dragged the trap around the house until I found him/her.  There is no perfect way to eliminate pests.  Just my opinion from the other side of the window.

Mike, I see your point...there is no easy answer here, but I still believe the glue traps, in most circumstances are a long, horrible, painful way to die.  Thanks for your comment and for setting the "saved" ones free!!!  I think we both want the same thing/goal!

Hi Kristin,

I hate the glue traps too & the suffering they cause.  Thanks for posting.

Hi Kristin  ~ Thanks for posting this. I just submitted my letter to ShopRite via the link.  And here's another vote for cats - not that my monkey would know what to do with a mouse but maybe the sight of him will give them pause.

These days, anything other than "have-a-heart" traps are the only way to go. Glue traps are the most horrid things ever invented.

www.ToulaRosebrock.comHi Kristin:

Not that I'm a big fan of mice or rats, but the glue traps are inhumane.

Trap and release is always the way to go...

Kristin, I must admit my ignorance as I have not heard of glue traps.  I agree it seems cruel - and these days, I have a twinge of remorse even when killing a spider.  Everyone has to eat  ;-)

On the serious side, it does seem to draw a line as to what living things, if anything, can be killed any which way.  Good food for thought.  Thanks for raising the consciousness.

Although not on the same subject as glue traps, as a former hunter, I believed in not letting an animal suffer. Get a clean shot and drop them quickly. Far too many hunters would an animal and let them go. I was amazed how many wounded animals I put out of their misery by incompetent or poor hunters...

Michael, if you have to kill them, do it quickly I guess I agree....my husband is a hunter (I Know, who would think right),so I am always trying to get him to stop :-)

I have not used one in about 10 years. I found a gecko in the trap and it killed me a little to know I was responsible for the death of this beneficial creature. There is always an alternative to glue traps! Great post!

Kristin.. If you can't get ShopRite to discontinue selling these.. you are doing the right thing to make the public aware of it.  If the public doesn't buy this.. the store will NOT carry it.  They can't afford to stock inventory that won't sell.

As much as I hate mice and other pests, this is cruel and there has to be a better way.  I had a pest control company who wanted me to put some of these in my attic to capture a squirrel.  No way and the squirrel had a nice, cozy home for the winter one year.  Absolutely no justification I can think of to kill something this way.
