To this humble scribe it appears as though we bloggers are a victim of Active Rain's success.

Anyone who's written a blog lately will know that it will last only a matter of a few short minutes on the main blog page, before disappearing into the nether regions of blogdom..

A blog is barely posted before it's #4 on the list of blogs.....and not long after that it's gone forever into pages hidden from immediate sight.

I'm not blaming ActiveRain for their success.....and I'm not blaming other bloggers....In fact I'm not casting any blame at all to anyone.   What I am doing is stating an obvious fact that blogs which require serious though and take some considerable time to write are here......and then gone in a flash.   The result is reduced readership....which is a key purpose of blog writing.

In actual fact I write blogs on other websites besides Active Rain.   These sites are not nearly as busy, but the number of readers to my blog is substantially higher because of slower blog turn over.

Has anyone else noticed what I've noticed about Active Rain?    If so, let me hear from you.

Thanks.  Sincerely, David

David - that is why I always make sure to check "My subscription" feed (in addition to the "featured" feed.   When I clicked on my subscriptions....there your post is.   I always try to check twice a day.   I don't always comment on the ones I read too.  But, you're on my subscribed list.   But...you are right...posts are gone in a flash on the standard feed of "all posts".

David,

I just barely caught this blog of yours and yes there does seem to be an almost overwhelming amount of blogging taking place and not just on Active Rain.

Perhaps those blogs that people find interesting enough to stop and read or intriguing enough to give comment should be allowed to stay on the front pages for a bit longer.

Good observation.  When I get on I''ll usually check the first 2-4 pages for blogs that look interesting.  So that is probably only from the last hour or so I'm guessing.

It would be interesting if Activerain could make it so a blog could automatically recycle to the top after it has a certain number of people open it.

Hi David ~ Do you read in the "All" category or in the "Professional" category?  The site used to default to the Professional category, now it defaults to All and I have to remember to change it when I start reading.  You get your time in the sun in the Professional category I think.  And I would imagine most members of the public aren't regularly reading the blog roll on AR - they're finding individual posts or reading a particular blog.
