R.I.P. Shamie, Best Horse Ever

By

We had to put this sweet baby to sleep today.  Thank you for the prayers and comments about Shamie, the horse pictured in my blogs and comments.  He will be dearly missed and cannot be replaced.

Shamie will be laid to rest peacefully by the vet in a most humane and pain free way.  The tumor in his cheek has progressively become worse and the multiple biopsy procedures has left him with a whole in his cheek clear to the mouth.

This is no way for a grazing animal to live.  They still cannot figure out what is causing this tumor or why antibiotics are not healing him.  Even if they did figure out today what was causing this, the horse would have a good year of painful recovery due to the hole in his face.

We all love our animals, sometimes we have to love them enough to let them go.

Melissa,

It is one of the hardest things to accept, letting go.  My deepest sympathy for your loss.

My friends, this is part of life.  I am proud to say I worked all day, went to an open house lunch, put on my smiley face and got through the day.  I doubt anyone even knew that my heart was breaking inside.

Tonight is time to be sad, and I will be.  Thanks for your comments.

Melissa,  I am truly sorry about Shamie.  It is always a rough decision.  One I never like to make.  I know everyone did what was best.  You will keep your memories close to you.  Throughout life we have many dear animal friends whose lives seem all too short.  It just does not seem to be fair sometimes.

I know you will miss him greatly.

I want everyone to know, horses are like really big dogs.

They love you just the same, they are just bigger.

Hey, Melissa - I know what it's like to lose a cat. I can only imagine what it's like to lose a horse.

We grieve with those who grieve.... having had 2 horses in our barn and how much a part of the family they were, we grieve for your incredibly tough decision for beautiful Shamie. I'll never forget the time I found my oldest daughter lying down beside her favorite Quarter horse and I about had a cow thinking of what could've happened if he had suddenly startled or something... she wasn't worried, he WAS just a big dog and so lovable. I'm so sorry for your loss. Blessings, Bob
