I just received this email and wanted to share with my friends that live in and around San Marino, California.  Please have your kids program the telephone number of the San Marino Police Department into their phones and talk to them about calling the Police in case they see suspicious acitivity.

San Marino Police Department's phone number is 626.300.0720

Here's the alert that I just received:

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

At about 10:07 a.m. on Tuesday, a student at San Marino High School came in early to tell a teacher that about 15 minutes prior to his arrival at school he believed he had been followed to campus by a mid-to-late-forties Caucasian male (mostly white hair) wearing sunglasses and driving a older-model light brown sedan.

The student, who prefers to remain anonymous, was riding his bicycle from Sierra Madre East to Santa Anita and south on Winston to the campus. The driver would pull over every once in a while so as to not speed past the student. Then he would pull back onto the street and drive slowly behind the student. When the student pulled out his cell phone like he "was calling the police," the car (and driver) pulled out and around the student and "zoomed" south across Huntington Drive and down Del Mar/Winston.

Immediately after the student alerted the teacher that he thought he had been followed to school, the teacher called SMPD.

SMPD asked the teacher to give the student involved the SMPD phone number and to tell the student to call in quicker next time. SMPD said that in the time that had elapsed from the time of the incident (approximately 9:50 a.m.) to the time of the call to the police (approximately 10: 08 a.m.), the white- haired guy in the light brown to tan car could be "anywhere."

SMPD's phone number is something we should all have handy, especially since dialing 911 sends us to the California Highway Patrol who eventually routes the call to SMPD. Calling SMPD directly will expedite the process for emergency assistance if and when it is needed. SMPD's number is 626-300-0720 for your reference.

While the student was not hurt, we just thought the community should be aware.

Sincerely,

Steve Gasca
