TREY, It is because of people like your friend that we have the freedom we do.
I hope that those who are serving don't have to deal with the rejection the Vietnam vets did/do.
Marchel
You are exactly right. Thanks for stoping by.
Hi Trey... In my experience, it is those who serve without bragging or talking about it who are the most heroic. Happy Veterans Day!
Steve
I believe exactly as you do.
Hi Trey,
We all can be grateful for people like that.
Hi Trey!

I do not come from a military family. The sacrifice our boys make for us came home to me when I visited Sacramento's Vietnam Memorial a few summers back. I read the names of those who gave their lives for our country. Trey, they were 20 and 21 years old...about the same age as my son. I thought about the mothers and fathers who lost their sons in that awful war. They were babies who hadn't had a chance to get old. I am not so cavalier about war anymore.
Trey: I once helped an Iraq War veteran look for a home. He will be on anti-anxiety drugs for the rest of his life. He told me the story of why (that was a day when he had run out of his meds and was a bit shaky). His unit came across a roadside bomb. He was injured, though miraculously, not terribly. However, he held his best friend in his arms as he died. It's impossible to even comprehend what our soldiers go through. They are the bravest among us to serve our Country without complaint.
Trey, we all know somebody like that. I still have my dad and some older cousins that are WW2 veterans and never talk about their experiences. Thanks for sharing.
Trey,
We owe our freedom to men and women like your friend.
That is a debt we can never repay but should never forget.
Lynda......We have to be.
Paula...... I know what you mean after seeing the one in D.C.
Chris Ann ....I hope you gave him a hug. I hurt for those guys.
Ed ...These are humble heroes.
Trey - I come from a family full of military vets. My Dad served in Vietnam, as well as his four brothers. None of them discuss their experiences there. My Dad retired from the military after serving 23 years. He will tell you that it was not a pleasant experience, but it did allow him to raise his family and he would do it all over again. On Veteran's Day, he took full advantage of the free meals the area restaurants were offering. He had a free breakfast at McDonald's, free lunch at Appleby's, and free dinner at Golden Corral. He said it "made his day." :)
