Okay now I am a big fan of working virtually and using technology to your advantage but this just seems a little out there to me.

Yesterday I was reading an article on MSN about a lady who was making some pretty big bucks by means of a virtual world the game she plays is called Second Life . Apparently she is one of the biggest developers in this Virtual World.

A little bit about Second Life:

The World:

The most important thing about the world of Second Life is that it is constantly changing and growing. Here's why:

  • Thousands of new residents join each day and Create an Avatar
  • Those avatars Explore the World and Meet People
  • These people discover the thousands of ways to Have Fun
  • Some people decide to purchase Virtual Land, which allows them to open a business, build their own virtual paradise, and more!
  • Linden Lab creates new land to keep up with demand. What began as 64 acres in 2003 is now over 65,000 acres and growing rapidly.

Owning land in Second Life allows you to build, display, and store your virtual creations, as well as host events and businesses.

Become a part of history by purchasing land and developing your own piece of Second Life. The Pricing and Fees are simple; you pay $9.95 a month plus a Land Use Fee proportional to the amount of land you own.

Whether it's a modest nook for a relaxing cottage, or an entire island to build your dream amusement park, land is for everyone.

Apparently this lady buys what they call a Sim (parcel of land) from Linden Labs (owners of Second Life) for $1675.00 USD and a monthly fee of $225.00 USD she then pieces it out and rents or sales portions of her Sim to other people in the virtual world. She accepts payment via PayPal for $20-25 per month or so depending upon the property. The money in this Sim world is call Linden Dollars and 269 linden dollars = $1 usd. She has is making 3 figures a year doing this. And just keeps reinvesting into new Sims, she apparently is one of the larges developers in Second Life. When people are listing their virtual properties they actually list them in the real world and the virtual world so people from the real world may purchase the virtual land as well.

Apparently big names like Coldwell Banker are getting in on the action as well. You never know maybe in the future we will all have our own "second life" buying and selling virtual land. What do you think?? Are any of you currently experiencing life on the other side??
