If you had $1000 to invest in your business, where would you invest your money?

Would you invest in technology?  Perhaps a digital camera?  A new smartphone?  Maybe a laptop?

Or would you invest in marketing?  Facebook Ads?  A series of ads in the local newspaper?  A postcard mailing campaign?

I recently wrote two posts:

Both posts were written about investments I have made in my real estate business...

The Blackberry Storm?  A technology tool...

Facebook Ads?  A marketing campaign...

Which is more important?  Where do you put your money?

When I wrote my post on the BlackBerry, the comments were unanimously positive.  Everyone said I would love the phone...  I do, by the way.  I will save that for another post!

When I wrote of the Facebook ad campaign, the comments were more reserved.  Lots of interest.  Curious.  Cautious.  But somewhat skeptical...

I was surprised.

If I have to make a choice, I spend my money on marketing...

You can have all the tools in the world, but if you don't have any customers..

Does it matter?

Without a doubt I would put it back into my online lead generation and more specifically into my own websites or means of driving traffic to them.  Probably not pay per click ads though.

Ken,

I think tht it will vary by the person you ask.  They will have different priorities or have just finishe one purchase and moving to the next.  I have just recently purchased a Blackberry now I have to see what needs the next push.

Hi Brian.  Thanks for stopping in.

It sounds like you are beyond me.  I get the concepts, but not the execution on what you are talking about...

I am thrilled with my ads.  I feel all marketing done consistently works...

Thanks again,

Ken

Hi Don.  Thanks for reading.

I am excited about the Blackberry too!  Really excited.  Still learning...

I just think we need to focus on being in front of the customer too!

Thanks again,

Ken

Hi Ken... no question about it... MARKETING for sure.  I can make due with my several year old Blackberry, but without marketing my phone wouldn't be ringing as much!

Nope, if you don't have any customers then nothing else in your business really matters - except lead generatino of course!

It's easy to overspend on both.

Your stat's on the Facebook ad are impressive and you have added fans.

I just don't look over at the ad's very much and honestly have never clicked on one.

It is all about bringing in business, the only way to know is to test, test, test.

Hi Missy, Darin, Janna, Larry, Steve, and Hannah.  Thanks for stopping in.

It is easy to overspend on both!

I guess both are important, of course.

My number 1 goal is to market, so that is where I focus.

Yes, test test test is a must.  It is better to try and fail than never try at all!

Thanks again,

Ken

Yep, I would pretty much say the same thing.  without Clients or Customers who are you going to talk to on your new cool phone?

I love my "toys" techie stuff, but they do get costly.  I am focusing more on my website and keeping that up and updated.  You give out some good choices, thanks.

Hi Rosemary.  I am enjoying all the toys...

But I did live without them.  Sometimes I wonder how...
