Griffith Indiana's annual July 4th Independence Day Parade will be held starting at 10:00am from the corner of Pine and Broad. (This is the intersection just to the north side of the park)
"Honoring our Heroes" is the theme.
If the parade holds true to past years, children should bring a grocery size bag for all the candy that will be thrown by softball teams, baseball teams, political candidates, and local merchants. The shady spots will be snatched up early on the east side of Broad Street. The parade will continue south as far as Main Street.
There may be a few yard sales along the route as locals have found no advertising necessary of their yard sales when they already have thousands going by.
One year I took advantage of a homeowners kindness and set up a fundraiser on her front lawn. That was the year I raised $2800 for my participation in the 3 day (60 mile) walk for breast cancer. Lots of bottled waters and brownies sold for $1.00 and .50 respectively. Some kind souls gave as much as $10.00 a bottle - not because the water meant so much but because the cause meant so much.
This year, IF I do the same fundraiser it will be contributed to my doctor who is walking this year. (I am unable due to previous commitments.) If you see pink balloons near Central Park - look for me and your link to cold beverages.
Lastly, if you are sensitive to loud noise, stop and pick up some earplugs. Our firefighters and law enforcement officers will be blowing their own horns. (Literally)
