Huntsville HomesI have been keeping you informed about a proposal to rezone a 189-acre portion of land in Northwest Huntsville, Alabama.  The purpose of the rezoning is to allow developers looking to purchase the land the opportunity to build more homes in the area.  The homeowners of Mount Charron and Callington Estates subdivisions have been very vocal in their concerns about the affects this rezoning issue could have on traffic and property values of homes in their area.  The proposal came before the Huntsville City Planning Commission for review yesterday and was rejected by unanimous vote.

The residents showed up to make sure their voice was heard regarding the issue.  Their main concern was that rezoning the area would allow for the development of a subdivision with many more houses with smaller lots.  Additional resident concerns are whether individuals wanting to live in the area would purchase the older, established homes versus new construction.  One of the development partners was present and he argued that new home purchasers want homes with smaller yards in this part of Huntsville.  He also stated that this rezoning is part of the conditions of his purchase of the land which caused some to wonder if his financial interests are affecting his position.  Huntsville Homes New Construction

The next step from here is to take the matter before the Huntsville City Council.  The Council can choose the support the decision of the Planning Commission or they can override it.  I am very sure the residents of the area will continue to voice their opinions on the rezoning and home development in their area.  As the events continue to unfold, I will keep you updated.
