Well over 400 particpants converged at the downtown San Diego location of the world famous Stingaree NightClub, hosted by Jim Marks, NAR, Zillow and countless others, the REBarCampSD kicked off yesterday morning at 8:30Am and ended with a party llike reception outside on the rooftop under the stars of the Stingareee Nightclub. This Venue I am told may be one of the most outstanding ever to host the BARCamp events.
What an extraordinary experience!
"Attendees don't just watch a set list of speakers. They give their own talks. Podcasting. Web standards. Microformats. Gum stick computers. Physical security. Robotics. Evolutionary algorithms. It can be anything. One of the best barcamp presentations ever given was about sandwiches. Barcamp is what you make of it."a quote taken from the REBar Camp site.
Topics today included the "Importance of and increasing SEO for your website" presented by Drew Meyers ( Zillow ) through topics on "Blogging" , by Jay Thompson and Kris Berg ( PhoenixRealEstateGuy.com and SanDiegoCastles.com) "Marketing properties with Photos "," Syndication of the WordPress platform, Social Networks and guidelines for maximizing your experience," Introducing Posterous.com", presented by Eric Stegemann. All the social network gurus were there to help each us learn the many ways to interact and build and establish relationships. Social Networks are about Relationship Building. There were experienced "REO Specialists" conducting discussions on the "future and explosion of REO's", "ShortSale Specialist Experiences", and "How to convert Online Consumer Leads" by Bob Wilson. There are too many topics to name all of them but certainly all of the many remarkable topics had presenters giving of their time to help each of us participating to always have the best online experience.
There were 3 levels of areas at the venue ( 12 specific and named areas ) used throughout the venue creating 12 simultaneous classrooms, that changed topics every 30 minutes. The sessions involved a presenter that guided the full participation of each and every attendee. As they say, " This is not a spectator sport". To maximize your shared knowledge and experiences, everyone was encouraged not to just attend but to actively participate.
Some of us knew each other well on line and today many of us from ActiveRain, Facebook,Twitter, Linked In, met in person for the first time. I guess you can just imagine how incredible that was.
What an amazing event and I was overwhelmed with the outpouring for friendship and sharing at this most amazing experience. If you think life changing might be too strong a word for this experience , then you weren't there but you were missed!
Way beyond interesting. More like a Power jolt of participants coming to together to explore the Real Estate Technology, social networks and the best of the best in aspects of the our industry. The talent and the genius would low you away.
Wish I could have been there! I was a 'speaker/sharer' at the Raleigh-Durham REBar Camp last week (talking about Posterous), and am a BIG fan of REBar Camps for the very reasons you mentioned. The REBar Camps are more important to me than the NAR and State events because I learn so much more at REBar Camps, and meet so many great like-minded people. XXOO
What a wonderful event . I would have to agree that when it comes to blogging and real estate technology, the REBarCamps simply immerse us in the best of the brightest. What a fabulous day it was. After the cool morning, the sun made it its way to make to make it another beautiful day in San Diego. I wish we could have another one soon. This was my first attendance but certainly not my last. ActiveRainers were abundant and it was so fun getting to meet so many in person and share our experiences in the Rain. I haven't been this energized in a lot of years.
On of these days....I will get to one of these in person. I will be attending the VIRTUAL version online on Tuesday. It sounds like everyone had a great session there!
Hi Christine, I will also be attending the virtual BarCamp version. I hope it will be full participation by all attendees as well. When it comes to experts in the technology and practical relationship aspects of real estate, there was so mch offered yesterday. The one thing I can't get over is that it free for invitees. This event must have cost a fortune with coffee and beverage service all day and then the reception beginning at 5:00PM. I hope you don't mind Christine that I will expand on this story through the comments, :-)
Hi Eric, Thanks for stopping by. It was my first event and I see my self attending many more. The learning experience is simply awesome. The public needs to know that we particpate in these learning experiences that give them the very best in services rendered.
Thanks for the update about REBarcamp. These are conversations and topics that go on every week at our Hawaii Life sales meetings. Since the company was started by a couple of web designers, we're always learning of better ways to network and use the net.
The slide.com really adds a lot to the slideshow ... if you don't mind me asking, what type of camera do you use? I'm tossing up the idea of buying a Canon 50d for a new camera for taking pictures of my listings and for hobby as well. Any recommendations?
That is terrific. We all need these trainings as we must seek to the higher levels of technology to be a productive participant in the industry. The more the better.
William..I can't wait until ReBar Camp Comes back to the Phila.Area it was a real shot in the arm..I sold so much Real Estate after Camp It was a Real Inspiration...Loved It!
The advantages we have by being connected are utterly amazing. Can you even imagine that we represent less 10 % of our industry. The others haven't even a clue of the advancements we are making because they choose not to participate. I can't imagine ever going back to to the way we used to do things and the mostly failed efforts. We are certainly advantaged through our ActiveRain network and it has changed out lives forever.
I knew you'd have a blast... I'm also happy they've tweaked some of the format (Like the 12 topics switching every half hour)... It is pretty amazing for sure when you get to meet in person a lot of people you know online. Nice slideshow!
Hi Wayne, You did . But they are scheduling all around the country and next year will be here soon. Click the link to the REBarCamp in the post and maybe send them a note. That would be the better way. I did some recording going on but just not sure if it was the presentations or not.
The entire experience is so amazing. Having not attended before, I don't know what the other formats were like but this certainly was enlightening and fast paced.
Certainly these camps are amazing and so worthwhile. Thanks for dropping by and glad you are inspired to attend. You won't regret the great learning and sharing experience.
You captured the event! And you're right it was a great time, the best bar camp I've attended. I especially appreciated seeing so many friends from the east coast this time. Timing with NAR worked well!
Looking forward to seeing more friends the next day or two, thanks!
Hi Lynda, It was great to meet up with you and I will see you again in a couple of hours. Believe me it is friends like you that make ActiveRain so wonderful and such a special gift in our lives. It was especially nice to enjoy a wonderful lunch with new friends. Looking forward to seeing you and Marlene and Jeff and a whole host of others at the CRS event tonight.
The camp sounds amazing. Does anyone know if any pod cast went out for the gathering? I really believe that this event will be one of the more spoken of and written about for some time to come. 12 topics switching is an amazing format.
Hello Sabrina, If I can locate any I do a post and post the links. it was a fabulous fast paced experience and I one I will be be gaining from for quite some time to come.
William, thanks for the REBar San Diego recap. I have read these from around the country and selecting your own track makes perfect sense. Very high tech compared to other conventions.

William, So sorry I didn't get a chance to say hello, thus I'll say it here....hello! My first REBARCamp as well and agreed, it was a wonderful day! So much energy, sharing and above all, met some terrific people who love what they do as much as moi. =) BTW, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE San Diego! Thanks for sharing!
William - it was, indeed, a tremendous experience. I met at least a dozen AR folks I have gotten to know on-line but met for the first time, some after 3 years. And the learning was, as it awlays is at these bar camps, incredible. I look forward to the next.
Thanks for a great overview. See you tonite at the CRS event perhaps??!!
Looks like San Diego Re-Bar was a huge success! There is so much information there, it's easy to get distracted, too -- great song choice and great Slide show, William!
Wish I could have been there. From reading all of the accounts on the rebar camp, it was a success all the way around. The slide show was great... saw lots of familiar faces.
William - That's certainly a nifty looking slide show. It provides a great glimpse into the event! I'm glad the camp was such a wonderful success! Thanks for sharing!
Fabulous slideshow - wish i knew the names that went with some of the faces - it looked a lot bigger then our Seattle Raincamp - and yours was held outside! I'm sure it was amazing! :-)

Sounds like an interesting program. Have heard a few people on the East Coast talk about it.
