Okay, I admit it - Google has some very good products that I would have trouble giving up, but as they get bigger and bigger, I'm Google - too much informationnot sure how comfortable I am with so much of my informaiton in the hands of one company.  Google has just come up with Dashboard.  This new service lets you see how many different Google accounts you have and what the company stores about you.

Think they don't know much about your life?  Obviously if you use Google Docs, Gmail, Google Alerts or Google Analytics, these are Google products.  But Google has also bought up Picassa, YouTube, Blogger and Feedburner as well.

The good news is Dashboard gives you easy access to your privacy settings for each of your accounts.

Of course, Google is touting this as a great thing, but I'm still feeling the hand of Big Brother.  What do you think?

I think its really cool too and a little bit scary. Has a monster been created? This could make a good disaster or thriller movie?

Let me put it this way . . . have you ever used Google Mail.  Just look at what they do. Their crawlers read your email and then deliver ads and sponsored links targeting the content of what you are saying in your email.  I advise all friends, family and clients to never use Gmail, unless you don't care that Google reads and saves your emails!

I'm sure Google has a wealth of information about me since I'm a big fan and user.

Deb, Google's free services are more than likely designed to gather information from a profile and target that information for advertising purposes. It may be free to us, but advertisers will probably pay dearly for the information. I think they know what they are doing.

I agree - it's a mixed bag. . . I love the tools, but Google isn't doing this out of the goodness of their heart. They are definitely getting valuable information from all of us and using it to their advantage.

Hi Deb ~ These issues concern me but what concerns me more actually is them having such a dominant share of the search business.  Too much business nowadays depends on search placement and having all the power in the hands of one company really needs to be looked at in my opinion.

That's an excellent point Liz.  I remember telling people to use Google for their search engine and having to spell it out to them because everyone thought it was such a silly name.  Now it's a standard verb every uses.

Did you get your Droid yet?  Is it everything you hoped it would be?

Thanks Deb...I didn't even know there was a Google dashboard. I'm going to check it out and see what data the Google geeks have on me...scary thought!

Deb - I've got nothing to hide, so I think it's great to have Google create a dashboard that shows every google app you are using in one place.  Can't wait to check it out.

Check it out John and see what you think!

Tony - it's not so much that I think we have anything to hide, it's our vanishing personal privacy

I think we have given up our personal privacy - but we are the ones who are doing it -

Hi Lisa - you're certainly right, but when I post something on my blog or Facebook, I get to decide what I want to tell the world.  I feel that's different than Google looking over my shoulder tracking what I'm doing and saying.

I think down-the-road Google may rule the world, and it doesn't really bother me. They probably will do it pretty well Seriously, I don't care who has info about me, as long as it isn't identitiy theft.

If I were given a choice of the government knowing too much about me or Google, I'd choose the good folks at Google any day!

I love googling, but I don't like the thought of spam based on my prior activities, and lack of privacy.
