In San Diego yesterday at the Women's Council of Realtors venue I attendeded a panel discussion on ... The Power of Social Media to Build Your Business moderated by Amy Chorew. The panelists were Sara Bonert, Kristal Kraft and Ginger Wilcox.

News from the NAR convention 2009 in San Diego.

In addition to learning what a HASH TAG is the panel gave us some great ideas, directions and pointers.

The Power of Social Media to Build Your Business - WCR panel at NAR convention

  • There are a variety of social media venues - pick what works for you - don't force what doesn't
  • Try meetup.com for idea of groups to connect with others in your area for things that interest you
  • Don't create groups to "sell" to - but rather to engage with
  • Use Twitter to pre-plan events and pre-connect with other participants
  • Find topics of interst on Twitter by using search.twitter.com and enter hash tag (pound or number symbol) follwed by the topic example #WCR09 - for WCR events at the 09 NAR convention
  • Find local tweeters, read their stuff, and start following ones that you relate to
  • Find local businesses that tweet and attend their events and let them know how you found them
  • Re-Tweet like Reblog when you find things of interest
  • Review your biographies on all social network sites and revamp them for the audience - don't sell yourself - get personal
  • Incorporate LINKS in your biographies that lead back to your blog posts
  • Incorporate VIDEO - this is a theme that has been repeated at just about every meeting we've attended at the convention

These were just a few of the great pointers, tips and examples that the panel shared with us.

Kathryn - this is good information ... I especially like groups to engage with versus selling to.  No one wants to be sold!

And social media is free! Its like free SEO and a great way to stay in contact with clients, without being too "in-your-face", because like Kathryn said, no one wants to be sold.

Good points there Kathryn.  I have been using social media (especialy Facebook) for a year with great success.  The next thing for us is videos.  :)

Uh, oh!  We're all in for brain strain when you and Amy return.  You'll have all these new and wonderful ideas and you'll actually expect us to "LISTEN & LEARN".  I think I feel a headache coming one.

Just kidding.  I can't wait.  I know you'll have so much to share with us and we'll be ready to soak it up.  Get back to learning.  Have a safe trip home.  See you on Wednesday.

Hi Kathryn!  I'm loving reading your NAR posts!  What great information!  I know what a hash tag IS but, not so sure what to do with it--it doesn't always work for me for some reason.  I'm not a Twitter Queen, that's for SURE--more a FB gal!
