A friend of my posted this story elsewhere, and I just had to share it here with you-all.

This fourth grade girl thinks she is about to give a school report on where her Dad is stationed in Iraq and is surprised when he shows up for her report.

Here's what that sentence looks like in real life. (WARNING: You may want to have some tissue handy before clicking on that link.)

David, This brought back so many memories of my girls when they were younger.  Brought tears to my eyes.

Makes you realize how very many innocent people are affected by the wars.

David- That was a very touching video. It shows what our military families give up for us.

Thank you ALL for your comments!

A couple of things occurred to me...

This girl had accepted her father's absence and was proud of his service to our country.  She wasn't bemoaning how she was a victim, or crying over her lack.  She was making the best of a difficult situation.

When one of her deepest longings was unexpectely fulfilled, she was overwhelmed with emotion.

Part of the key to this story is that the girl's parents "set her up" to make the best of hardship rather than tacitly (or actively) approve of any pity parties or any PLOM (Poor Little Old Me) attitude.

Makes me think... what can I do to unexpectedly fulfill someone else's deepest longing?  Is there some situation I can turn around for another?  Is there anyone (myself included) who seems to be heading into a tough situation where I can encourage them to get past feeling like a victim, and find a way to move forward positively in spite of the circumstance which are beyond our control?
