Yesterday was Friday the 13th and my buddies Al and Peggy Cunningham up in BC tried to warm me. I had read their post SO IT'S FRIDAY THE 13TH...TOMORROW OR TODAY, DEPENDING WHEN YOU ARE READING THIS earlier in the day.
They gave me some of the warnings. For example if there just happens to be 13 letters in your name. My given name is 13 letters long.
Well, I'm not much for superstitions so I made my comment about my name and never gave the day another thought. My husband's contracting company has been usually busy lately for this time of the year. So I've been picking up the slack as much as I can. We're a family business, so we have a lot riding on the quality of our work and all that. Every job we do has at least 1 Therriault on the site. Yesterday was no
different. I was on site with our youngest and a couple of guys. Here's how the day went.
- Arrive on site at 8:00
- 9:30 20-foot ladder slips and Paul come off. Luckily he rode it down most of the way and wasn't hurt.
- 12:00 the guys break for lunch. A small branch falls from a tree and hits Jack on the hard hat. He's not hurt.
- 3:00 I have a mild asthma attach. Got through it just fine, but remember I haven't had one since I was 12 or 13.
- 5:00 The guys all go home my husband and older son arrive to cart away the days debris from the site. While loading the truck my son steps off the deck and into a gopher hole strategically filled in by fallen leaves. His ankle is severely sprained and turns the size of a grapefruit right in front of our eyes.
All coincidences you say? Maybe, I can't say it's not ... but it was after all Friday the 13th.

I'm sorry to hear that! Glad you are okay. So you don't panic next Friday the 13th, lets just call it a coincidence
HaHa Michael, I promise not to panic. We actually like Friday the 13th around here, but you have to admit ...yesterday was almost enough to make you wonder (not really). Hey, thanks for commenting.
Sue
Glad it was nothing more serious! The day is over and you can breathe a sigh of relief!
I am very superstitious. I closed on my loan/contract to buy my business on Thursday the 12th of January 1995 because I wasn't about to close on Friday the 13th. But I also had my first kiss from my husband on Friday the 13th in October of 2000.... so now it's always a first kiss celebration that day. Hope everything is okay with your son's ankle very soon and that you don't have any more asthma attacks.
Sue,
Glad everyone survived; coincidence that's all.
Debra about the only thing that was really bad was my son hurting his ankle. I found out this morning that the pain kept him up all night. Today he's hobbling around and still refusing to go have it checked. Says it's a sprain, *hit happens and there's no sense spending the time and money on something like a sprained ankle.
Hi Tammy, I haven't had one of those since I was a teenager. It certainly was weird, but one of the guys happens to have asthma and handed me his inhaler. That fixed me up within a few minutes. Jon ankle is still giving him trouble, but he insists he's going to be fine. Kids, not much you can do once they hit a certain age.
Terry I agree it was all just a coincidence and yes, we all survived.
Thats a man for ya!
Debra you know what? I think you're completely right on the mark. My husband sat right here in the living room with a big smile on his face like he was all proud about his son taking it like a man.
Hi Suesan: Hmmm. I am prescribing bed rest for every Friday the thirteenth from now on!
:)
I should be superstitious, but I'm not. My dad, oldest brother, and youngest brother all were born on Friday the 13th and all died on Friday the 13th. They are the only members of my family born on Friday the 13th and they all are deceased.
