Ok most of you know I am a big racing fan NASCAR, Off-Road Rally, Indy, Formula 1, If it has a motor and they are racing I am there....Well just about everybody knows about  Indianapolis Motor Speedway if you don't click on the link....

You know your driving down the freeway and some crazy (person) goes flying by you like you are standing still and what do you say.....Hey buddy what do you think this is the Indianapolis 500? or you may say something I don't think I will write here.....but you know what it is...

Anyway this is about what almost didn't happen ...Back during WW2 when we were fighting the Axis powers The Raceway was pretty much shut down ..Hey we were at WAR a big one...So the race track was not taken care of. The owner of it at the time Edward Rickenbacher was going to tear it down and sell off the land...But along came Tony Hulman and he talked Edward into selling him the track for $750,000 a pretty good price in 1945 for 320 acres....

So on this day November 14th 1945 the race track was sold and history was saved...makes me happy to know.

After 6 months of hard work In May of 1946, the American Automobile Association ran its first postwar 500-mile race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Known as The 500 or Indy 500 or better  known as The Indianapolis 500....

Just think back in 1945 a few Realtors may have been happy to sell off the land and make a few bucks. But thanks to Tony Hulman Millions of fans have enjoyed Racing at the now famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway...And so can you now...

And you know if it wasn't for Tony you could be yelling at the crazy speeders flying by you on the freeway....saying hey buddy what do you think this is the Geneva 500?....or something like that. It just doesn't sound right...

But thanks to Tony Hulman you get to yell Hey buddy what do you think this is the Indianapolis 500? now that just has a beautiful ring to it and just sounds soooooo right ....don't you think?.....

anyway thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed a little racing history today....peace zane

My little racer at Pocono this summer maybe we will try Indy next summer I think he would like that.....

Zane, wow- I would think the $750K was a great price in 1945, and you're right - the Geneva 500 just doesn't have the same ring to it.  I'm always glad when they pass me, rather have them way ahead than right on my tail.

Everytime I return an entry grocery cart in front of the store, I hand it over to someone else - especially if the wheels don't wobble and squeek * with the comment that it "qualified up front and you should get good pit stall"....sometime people get it and smile - sometime they don't!!!

Since I usually have on a NASCAR ball cap, #11 or #42 for the last few weeks or my #26 Laughing Cow * Rickey Bobby (Help me Jesus, Help me Tom Cruise!!) * more get the reference than don't!

I wear my David Reutimann #00 Burger King cap to the gym!!!HeHeHe!!
